c. ​The book is an autobiography of Paula and her life. Paula writes of what it was like to grow
up with Jim Crow laws and her families persistent to fight for freedom. She also write of the
experience of her first protest and what it felt like to be part of something so important.

The book overall would appeal to older children. The first appealing factor would be the
cover, the cover is unique as it has a young girl holding a flag that reads equality. The
illustrations of the book are also beautifully made and the text is simple yet provides great
details of the historical time. The book would be great for a child who is interested in the
time period provided and like to learn of how things were in the past.

This book is a great read for older children yet can be simplified for younger ones. The book
provides a relatable character who is Paula and her experience of growing up and fighting
against the Jim Crow laws. The book is not overly simpliefied and is true to its genre of
history.
