Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Writing Activities

Directions: Each night for homework, choose one of the following questions to
write an answer to. Use complete answers and full sentences. Make sure to
write which question you are answering next to your answer.

1. Invent your own candy. Maybe it has the power to do something. If so,
what can it do and what are the ingredients? Where would you find the
ingredients?
2. One more golden ticket has been found! Who found it? What is he or
she like? Obedient like Charlie? Or…not?
3. Choose one of the characters and write a letter that tells about his or
her day at the factory. Include a picture of the most memorable part of
the day.
4. What do you think of the different ways the children were punished at
the factory? Were these fair punishments? How did the parents feel
about the way Willie Wonka treated their children?
5. Do you think Augustus, Violet, Veruca, and Mike will be punished by their
parents for disobeying Willy Wonka’s rules? If so, what do you think is an
appropriate punishment for them at home?
6. After the story ends, do you think Charlie will be a different person at
home or at school? If so, how?
7. Do you think Augustus, Violet, Veruca, and Mike see themselves as good
or bad? What words would they use to describe themselves?

8. Do you think Augustus, Violet, Veruca, and Mike will behave differently
after the visit to the factory? Why or why not? How will they act?
9. Willy Wonka uses squirrels as workers in his factory. Could other animals
work in Willy Wonka’s factory? If so, which department? Assign a job to
each animal (or come up with your own animals) and tell why you think
they’d be good:
Dinosaurs Monkeys
Dolphins Pandas
Elephants Rabbits
Kangaroos Raccoons
Mice Snakes
10. Would it be possible to invent a machine that could find a golden ticket?
What would that machine do and look like?
11.Congratulations! You are the finder of a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s
factory! Would you share the golden ticket and the lifetime supply of
candy? If so, with whom and why?
