III. Methodology

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

May we all stand for a short prayer. (Students stand for a short prayer)

Good morning class. Good morning ma’am.

You may now take your seats. Thank you ma’am.

A. Motivation
Class, we will be playing a guessing
game. It is called “Name this Job”.

Before we start, listen carefully to the

mechanics of the game.

Your class will be divided into two

groups. Each group is given 1 minute
to play the game.
The group has to select one
representative. The representatives
will pick strip of paper from the box
where the name of the job is written.
The representatives have to give
words that are in association with the
job they picked. However, they have
to avoid using words that obviously
state the job.

From the words mentioned by the

representatives, their group mates
have to guess the job. Remember, the
representatives cannot pick another
paper until their group mates guess the
job they picked.

Is that clear, class? Yes, it is.

So are you ready? Yes, we are.

Let’s get the ball rolling!

Okay class, thank you for your

cooperation.

B. Activity
For our next activity, I have here two
envelopes containing parts of a letter.

All you have to do is to arrange the

parts in their proper order.

Only one person stays in front to post

the parts.

So let’s start! (Students arrange the letter.)

C. Analysis
What particular type of business
correspondence is this? That is an application letter, ma’am.

Brilliant!

Anyone here who could give us the

purpose of writing an application
letter? People write application letter to get the job
they want.
Exactly!

During the first part of our lesson, we

played “Name this Job”. Before you
could land to those jobs, you have to
furnish first your application letter.

Now, let’s take a look on the parts of

an application letter.

Heading: The heading contains the email address and

the cell phone number of the sender. The date
of writing is also included.
Great!

For application letter, the date is also

included in the heading. It is already
acceptable not to include your address
for safety issues. Your name is also
not included to avoid redundancy.

Inside Address: Inside address includes the name of the

recipient, his position, the name of the
company, and the address of the company.
Exactly!

Add job title if appropriate. Separate

the recipient's name and title with a
comma. Double check that you have
the correct spelling of the recipient's
name.
Salutation: The salutation normally begins with the word
"Dear" and always includes the person's last
name. The salutation ends with a colon.
That’s right!

Use every resource possible to address

your letter to an actual person. If in
case you do not know the name or the
sex of your receiver, use Dear
Madam/Sir (or Dear Sales Manager or
Dear Human Resources Director).

Body of the letter: This is the most important part of a business

correspondence since it states the needed
information about the writer to convince the
employer to choose him among other
applicants.
Excellent!

It is also good to remember that the

body of the letter contains four basic
parts and should be three or four
paragraphs long. These paragraphs
should attract the employer’s
attention; state your interest in the
company and the position; arouse the
employer’s desire to interview you;
and request that the employer
take action in the form of an
interview. (AIDA)

Complimentary close: Finish your letter with an appropriate

Complimentary Closing (Sincerely, or
Sincerely yours,).
Correct!

Signature: Leave enough room to sign

the letter before keying your
name. Do not forget to sign it.
Points to remember:
1. Use full block style format. (All
lines begin at the left margin)
2. Keep your letter short.
3. Do not use abbreviations.
4. Avoid using contractions.
5. Check and then recheck your
spelling, grammar and
punctuation.

D. Abstraction
Do you have any questions about the
topic class?

Alright, may I ask someone from the

class to state the basic parts of an
application letter. (The student states the basic parts of the
application letter.)
Perfect!

How about the function of each part?

Anyone? (The students give the function of each part of
the letter.)
Great!

Who among you can give the

importance of knowing how to write
an application letter? It is important to know how to write an
application letter because it is our way to sell
ourselves to the employers and get employed.
Precisely!

It seems that you have understood

well the lesson.

E. Application
Now, I want you to group yourselves
based on your chosen tracks.

One group for academics, another for

arts and design, the other would be for
sports and the last group for
Technical-Vocational-Livelihood.

In your groups, you have to write an

application letter.

Academic track group, you are

applying for a teaching position.

Arts and design track, apply as a

designer.

Sports track, apply as a coach.

And the TVL track, apply as a chef.

You are given 10 minutes to work on

that.

A representative from each group will

read the application letter in front and
everyone is free to give his evaluation
or comment on the output.

Are you done?

IV. Assessment
For your individual activity, you have to proofread an application letter and rewrite it on
a whole sheet of paper. You are given 10minutes to do the activity.

V. Assignment
These are the vacant posts. Choose one and write an application letter for the post you are
interested in.

You also have to read the “Interview Tips for Job-Seekers” on

https://www.quintcareers.com/job-interview-tips/ and get ready for a simulation of job
application tomorrow.
