iZombie Review

Hi, I’m Jessica O’Hara and I’m going to film a review on

the TV show called ‘iZombie’

‘iZombie’ is a a zombie who helps solve murders from

working in a morgue, while the rest of the world are
slowly discovering the existence of the new species.

The show premiered on March 17th 2015 on the CW.

It is directed by Rob Thomas.

The whole show is based off of a comic by the same

name, written by Chris Roberts and Michael Alred.

The Genre(s) of the show are; Drama, Crime, Horror

and Fantasy. It’s not one whole genre as there are
multiple different aspects to the show, so expect a
little of everything. Although, I personally would have
thrown in Comedy as a factor too since they are
comical every now and again.
Some of the main actors and characters of the show
are; Rose McIver as Olivia Moore, Malcolm Goodwin as
Clive Babinaeux, Rahul Kohli as Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti,
Robert Buckley as Major Lilywhite, David Anders as
Blaine DeBeers, and Aly Mackalka as Peyton Charles.

THE PLOT:
Olivia “Liv” Moore was a rosy-cheeked, disciplined,
over-achieving medical resident, who had her life path
completely mapped out until the night she attended a
party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie-feeding
frenzy. Afterward, she became part zombie. She works
at a coroner's office to give her access to the brains she
must eat to survive. A side effect of her new diet is the
ability to absorb the memories of the deceased, which
helps her solve homicides.

My analysis of the whole show is; I think they did very

well with filming the shots and framing them in a way
that helps the viewer understand what the characters
are seeing and feeling themselves. I also think they do
a good job at bringing the audience into the show.
They draw you into it almost right away, with a short
introduction to the main character, Liv, by showing
how she reacts in certain situations when you have to
think as quickly as possible. Then we’re thrown in the
world of zombies along with Liv as she discovers the
existence of zombies.
I also think they did very well at creating relationships
within the cast of characters, proving the relationships
are real, making the characters react in certain ways
that differentiate themselves from each other and
making them show emotion realistically. It makes it
relatable but not too much. And I think the actors did a
great job at bringing these characters to life.

And although the series is quite serious, the whole

show isn’t dull and extremely serious to the point of
being boring and repetitive, they do throw jokes in
every now and again. Sometimes it can be quite
morbid, but you would have to think of the fact that Liv
and Ravi work in a morgue of corpses and Liv’s a
zombie. So, some jokes are going to be morbid but not
all of them are. So it could help with a scene that’s
maybe too serious and they throw in a joke to try and
lighten the mood, but if the event is strictly serious
there’s likely no jokes involved. This also helps me
personally like the show and makes me want to keep
watching it because I enjoy both comedy and serious
scenes. But if there’s too much of either it’s makes it
less impactful to the audience.

I think the narrative is brilliant and of course it

wouldn’t have worked if the actors themselves didn’t
perform well. So when the actors do achieve a good
performance it helps make the characters more
understandable and easy to either like or hate
depending on their characters position in the story,
and it’s easy to go with rather than having all of these
questions that will soon be answered throughout the
show.

But with Liv being the main character, I think Rose’s

acting skills also brought Liv to life. I think she made
her very lovable and relatable with her dorky and kind
personality of wanting to help people in any way she
possibly can. This is why she decides to help with
murder cases from the morgue. Rose also helps us feel
Liv’s sadness, grief, anger, relief and happiness, while
she’s showing those emotions in those moments. And
that’s not an easy thing to do.

In conclusion, I think it’s a great watch. Whether you

want to get invested in the characters and storyline or
you just want something to watch for the fun of it. But
if you do want to get invested, you’re kind of stuck
because it does draw you in and it makes you want to
watch more even though almost every episode is
different from each other, while having a few that are
very much linked, most of them are separate. But I
think it’s worth the watch especially if you like
zombies.
That’s the end of my review and I hope it was helpful
to those anyone wondering about iZombie.
