Pastoral Kit Realization

Alterations from Proposal
After the proposal was turned in, one main change was made to the design of the picture
frame. Part G (the part to hold the picture in) was deleted because when the laser printer cuts out
part F (the back of the frame), it will cut out a piece that can serve the same function as the
previous part G while also reducing the number of pieces of wood needed to cut out one full
picture frame kit.

Refinements Made
After the prototype was printed, it was evident the basketball decorations needed to be
redesigned. The lines on the interior of the basketball ended to close to the edge, so while they
held together initially, they did not hold up well to being touched. Because of that, the basketball
decorations (part I) was redesigned to make the interior lines farther from the edge of the ball.

The average response for question one was a one, or strongly agree. The average response for
question two was a one, or strongly agree. The average response for question three was a one, or
strongly agree. The average response for question four was a one, or strongly agree. The average
response for question five was a one, or strongly agree. Overall, it seemed that the peers who
evaluated my pastoral kit found it fun, safe and clear to assemble. They also thought it served a
good purpose and would recommend buying it. The biggest complaint was the sharp edges on a
few of the pieces. This could be adjusted with some sanding to make the kit safer, or a warning
could come with the kit to advise them to be careful with the sharp corners. Overall, there was
positive feedback from the peer reviews. They seemed to really like that it could be customized
to fit the child’s personality or desires. They also liked that after the construction was finished, it
could still be used and still have a purpose.

Final Report
The main objective of this project was to create a project that could be assembled by a
child and adult. It was supposed to be something that would be enjoyable to put together, while
also being something that can be used or kept after it was done. The picture frame pastoral kit
satisfies both criteria. It is a relatively quick craft to assemble with an adult and kid, and after it
is put together, a picture of them could be put in it to help them to always remember the time
they spent together making the picture frame. The different decorations also help the pastoral kit
to be more fun to put together. It gives the kids an opportunity to be creative with their design
and to craft the picture frame to fit their personality or the space they are going to put it in.
Looking at the peer evaluations, it seems they liked the idea of the picture frame because
it was simple to put together but also something that could be used and cherished afterwards.
They also liked the different design pieces and they had fun decorating their picture frame as
they put it together for the evaluation. The biggest criticism of the kit was the sharp corners of
the pieces. Although they could be sanded to make the kit safer, it would compromise the design.
There could be a warning on the kit to warn about sharp corners and small pieces in case children
under the specified age (five years old) get ahold of the kit.
If this kit were to be sold on the market, I would hope consumers would assemble it with
their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. I hope they would spend some quality time
together constructing and decorating it. They could take a picture of them in the process, and
maybe even put it in the frame to commemorate the time they spent together making the picture
frame. I would hope that the child would keep the frame in their room or with their keepsakes
and always remember when they put it together with their parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.
