Learning priority: Making sense of the world, developing working theories.

Rayan, the other day when I prepared some activity for the children to do some experiment,
you and Farah came to the table followed by few other children. In this experiment I used
baking soda, red food colouring and vinegar. I put some baking soda in a tray which has six
little compartments. The children has to put a few drops of liquid colour into the baking soda
in the tray using a dropper. Then they were supposed to put some vinegar to that mixture and
see what happens. Rayan, you were so excited when you dropped some vinegar in and the
reaction started. However as you were using the dropper and only a little bit of vinegar
dropping each time, the reaction was slow. So you decided to pour more vinegar at once to
see what happens. When all bubbled up you were so excited and overjoyed, you just said,
“Wow!”. It was like red lava and was similar that we do in our sandpit to create volcano.
It was wonderful to see Rayan immensely enjoying this experiment with her friend and
started to wonder and make sense of the world.

For young children science is just an extension of

their everyday world which encourage them to
ask questions, explore and be creative. Science
experiments are fun.
We Kaiako must use the opportunity to create
amazing experiences for the children that will
have the lasting impact on their entire learning
journey.
