Statistical Treatment

The statistical treatment to be applied for the study will be the mean, standard deviation,

and the Pearson correlation. The demographic profile and coping mechanisms will be

summarized using frequency distribution tables. The descriptive statistics which is the mean and

standard deviation will help describe the level of coping mechanism and RLE performance. The

mean values of the level of coping mechanism and the level of RLE performance is interpreted

using the description mentioned in table under research instrument. The formula for the mean

and standard deviation is as follows:

For the mean:

where: x= level of coping mechanism or RLE performance

For the standard deviation:

∑ ( x−x )2
s=
√ n−1

where:
x is the level of the student in coping mechanism or RLE performance
x is the mean of the coping mechanism or RLE performance
n is the number of students
∑ ( x− x )2 is the sum of the square of the differences between levels and the mean
The answer for the relationship can be derived using the inferential statistics known as
Pearson correlation. The Pearson correlation will help identify the relationship between the
levels of coping mechanism and the level of RLE performance. The Pearson correlation statistics
will be tested using a 0.05 level of significance. If the p-value of the Pearson statistics is lower
than the level of significance, the null hypothesis is rejected otherwise, it can be said that there is
no sufficient claim that there is a relationship between the level of coping mechanism and RLE
performance. The computation for the Pearson correlation is as follows:
Formula for Pearson correlation
n

∑ ( x i− x́ ) ( y i− ý )
r = i=1
( n−1 ) s x s y

Where

x i is the level of coping mechanism of each student ( i )

n is the number of students
x́ is the mean of the level of coping mechanism
y i is the level of RLE performance of each student ( i )
ý is the mean of the level of RLE performance
s x is the standard deviation of the level of coping mechanism
s y is the standard deviation of the level of RLE performance
