Discussion

An experiment was done using 50 birds which were divided into two groups A and B each group
containing 25 birds. Group A was fed with kaituk feed and group B was fed with bounty feed. According
to the data obtain. According to the data obtain birds which were fed with bounty feed had a better
weight Gain than those which were fed with kaituk feed. Protein is a good feed nutrient which aids in
the growth and development of tissues and Also bones and muscles.

The table below shows the protein and fat content of the two feed rations used:

Nutrients Bounty feed Kaituk feed

Crude fat 6.7% 3.2%
Protein 31% 20%
It can be seen on the table above that bounty feed had the highest unit of fat and protein as a result the
bird’s gain more weight than that of the birds fed with kaituk feed. Broiler requires a large amount of
protein in order to improve weight gain.

Carbohydrate sources, such as corn and wheat, and various fats or oils are the major source of energy in
poultry feeds and also fat.

It was observed while conducting the research that the bounty feed contain a large amount of corn than
kaituk also the carcass for bounty was more plum and look more ideal in to the eyes of the consumer.
Discussion
An experiment was done using four beds, two beds using chicken manure and the other two with
pig manure. After the experiment was a success it was observed that the two beds incorporated
with chicken Manure was proven better than the beds incorporated with pig manure. Base on the
information in figure one, the graph shows that the of the leaves on the bed using chicken
manure shows the consistent increase of the length of the leaves. The first week the length of the
leaves was the same. Week two beds with poultry manure increased by 0.5cm. Week two there
was an increase of 1cm on the beds which contain chicken manure. This growth rate continues
until harvesting. Based on research manure must contain some key nutrient which are important
for growth and development some of these nutrient are outline below:
 Nitrogen: which help foliage grow stronger by affecting the plants leaf development.
 Phosphorous: is responsible for assisting in the growth of roots and flower.
 Potassium: strengthen the plant.
 Magnesium: contributes to the green appearance of the plant.
 Calcium: aids in the growth and development of cell walls.

Nutrients Pig manure Poultry manure

Calcium 2.50% 7.78%
Magnesium 0.08% 0.56
Nitrogen 3.8% 6.3%

Of all the manure chicken manure has the highest amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and
potassium.
According to Bill Kerr Sandy soil is often called ‘light soils’ because they are relatively ‘light’ or easy to
work with when it comes to ploughing, planting and cultivating. But they’re certainly not ‘light’ or easy
to manage! These soils tend to dry out quickly which leads to low fertility Because sandy soil has
loose and coarse particles leaching will be dominant but when amended with poultry manure it
not only increase its rate of water retention but also its nutrient content e.g. nitrogen which aids
in plant growing stronger. The table above shows that poultry manure has a higher percentage of
key nutrient needed for growth and development as a result it will be noted that if plants are
planted with chicken manure it will grow much faster than that pig manure. It was also observed
that the bora produce from the chicken manure were better to add value to because of its texture
and its length it had more quality than that of the bora produce by the pig manure which help to
bring in a better income because the bora derived from chicken manure was the ideal produce to
do the value addition( pickle bora) than that of pig manure. So it therefore means the bora
planted in the chicken manure was more capable of getting a higher income because of its quality
and may last longer than bora from the pig manure.
