    JOB SHADOWING
    ● Vice President of Creative Services at Toll Brothers (Senior Architect)
    ○ Designing and creating homes and other buildings of residence
    (condominiums, apartments, etc.) all across the nation.

    ● Been interested in Architecture since childhood.


    ○ Visited the headquarters about five or six years ago.
    ○ Remained in contact since then.

    ● Contacted by phone call - asked if I could come back.


    HOW THE DAY WAS SPENT
    ● He gave me a tour of the facilities.
    ● Showed me how to use the technology and software programs.
    ○ AutoCAD and Revit
    ○ Virtual Reality (VR)
    ○ Started my own floor plan and elevations.

    ● Mr. Gehman oversees the other architects in the company.


    ○ Allowed to sit in at a conference with other senior officials.
    ○ Not permitted to attend an interview but was debriefed later.
    INTERACTIONS
    In addition to talking with Mr. Gehman, I was able to interact with:
    ● Civil Engineer
    ○ Deals with surveying land plots for Toll Brothers’ neighborhoods.
    ○ Neighborhood planning, including parks and green spaces.
    ○ Analyze township and city codes for building on land.

    ● Project Manager
    ○ Works on the field and directs the construction of the neighborhoods.

    ● Sales Office Architect


    ○ Strictly designs the model homes and the sales offices for neighborhoods
    under construction.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    ● Looked and felt like a regular office building.

    ○ Complete with a multitude of cubicles.

    ● Extremely quiet work environment - not much conversation or


    collaboration.

    ● Could not see myself working at this location.

    ○ Boring and quiet environment.

    ○ Not much space for collaboration.


    INSIGHTS
    ● Designing a house and creating a neighborhood takes a significant amount
    of time and preparation.
    ○ Planning almost five to ten years in advance.
    ● In order to be an architect, one must LOVE designing and architecture.
    ○ Something that takes a lot of time and energy.
    ●
    END OF THE DAY

    ● We finished the day spending time with AutoCAD and Revit.

    ● There has been some follow-up:

    ○ Through email and phone call.

    ● We will most likely continue to remain in contact.

    ○ Good for college and post-higher education.

    ○ Excellent connection if I ever end up doing something related to architecture.
