Puzzles

By Teacher Fatemeh, May, 2019

More and more, I am seeing you working at activities independently. Today you sat for ages and
worked on this puzzle. Your sister came to offer help and you made it very clear to her that you
wanted to do it by yourself. This area of confidence shows us that you are settled and comfortable at
An-Nur, wonderful to see.

I was amazed how you persevered placing each piecing one spot then another piecing the picture
together and seemed to find the right place very quickly. You certainly had this puzzle sorted much
more quickly than I can do it. By doing puzzles, you are practicing your hand-eye coordinating skills
and learning how to match size, shape, pattern and colour. These concepts are at the foundation of
mathematical understanding.

Mehasen I really enjoyed watching you problem solve and see how excited you were when you
finished the puzzle. I did not get a photo of that because you excitedly showed me the finished
puzzle then tipped it out so you could redo it again . I think that you wanted to see if you could do it
faster this time. While you are problem solving by yourself, you are also gaining skills to aid you in
problem solving in groups because you are able to work through the difficulties and solutions in your
mind.
