Nowadays, technology is very powerful. If we look around us, technology can

be seen everywhere and it is used for almost everything. From morning until late
night, technology is associated with our lives for it helps us in numerous ways. The
uprising of technology has made our lives much easier. We can do our tasks much
faster and in a much easier way. But we must never forget that anything that comes
to us has its own advantages and disadvantages.

There are multifarious benefits of technology. In our daily lives, it serves us in

many different ways to help us do our activities for our needs. A television, for
example, is the best entertainment and information medium. Printers and Xerox
machines, to help us easily print our outputs. Cameras to capture memories. Home
Appliances to make our household chores much easier. Our cellphones that aren’t
just helping us talk to another person but also to take our OOTD, selfie and groufies,
watch video, and we can even use them to browse in the Internet. Technology is also
used in the classroom because it increased our motivation.

But the most important technological change is the advent and popularization
of the internet and smart phones. It connects us with people around the globe and
made our communication much easier than ever before. It is an information highway
that any answer to any question can be found with a few clicks of the keys on our
computer or smart phones. And through internet, Mark Zuckerberg, Kevin Systrom,
and Jack Dorsey introduced to us the most addictive social media platforms such as
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Most of us have our own social media accounts to
keep us entertain.

On the other hand, technology brings a lot of negative effects to our personal
and social lives. We now depend on technology, which affects us and causes us to
get bad habits. It caused addiction to the internet, particularly in using social media,
depression, isolation, anxiety, and it has also affected our social skills. Millennials are
the most affected in this because we are the ones who use it very much. We are very
addictive in using our smartphones. We are always holding it. And because of that,
it leads us to have online affairs causing separation from our family and friends. I’ll
tell you a real story, I saw a group of friends that is out to dinner at a restaurant.
Not enjoying each other’s company, but each staring into the screen completely
ignoring their friends. Some of us are using social media to brag, to find love and to
flirt. And sometimes, I feel that it is a requirement to follow the trends.

These technologies have slowly taken an essential part in our day-to-day lives
and I bet that no one can imagine a life without technology. It does help us in many
ways, but unfortunately a lot of us have become addicted to the use of technology.
We can conclude that if we used it wisely, it can surely create wonders in our lives.
But if we can’t, a big disaster will come to us. Before I end my speech, I want to
leave you one question. Are you using your device or is your device using you?
