10 GAMES TO REVISE AND HAVE FUN

RUNNING DICTATION
Divide your students into groups. Display copies of the next texts on the
classroom walls. One learner in the group has to run to the corresponding
text and read it, try to memorise as much of it as possible and run back to
their partners and dictate it to them. Each group should have a written
version of the text; the running student may rotate as they wish. The first
group to finish with the fewest mistakes is the winner. Students can then
put the paragraphs of the story in the right order.

make it a bit more challenging. You may give more points to the groups that
guess with the first three lines you draw, two points with the other three lines
you draw and one point from the sixth line onwards. Another option is to give
them one or two minutes to guess.

8) THE SPELLING GAME

Make a list of words learnt the previous year on a sheet of paper. Divide
your students into small groups and tell them that one group at a time has to
select a representative who will come to the front to spell out a word for their
group. They can only spell it twice and their group will have only one chance
to say it right.

9) SENTENCE SCRAMBLE
Prepare sets of cards with words and punctuation marks to make
sentences. Put each set in a numbered envelope. The sentences you choose
may depend on your students´level and the contents you want to revise.
Divide your students into pairs. Hand out one envelope to each pair and ask

prepare several rounds to make the game last longer and provide more
practice.

Example: Likes My doesn´t but tennis She sister

like football
(My sister doesn´t like football but she likes tennis)

10) WORD SCRAMBLE

Prepare sets of cards bearing letters to form words. Put each set in a
numbered envelope. The words you choose may depend on your student´s
level and the vocabulary you want to revise. Divide your students into pairs.
Hand out five envelopes to each pair and ask them not to open the envelopes
until you say so. Explain that in each envelope they will find letters to form a
word. Once they have formed five words, they have to shout Ready! The first
pair to finish is the winner. Students who haves problems in ordering the
letters may be helped by the whole class.
