Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The activity I have planned for my students is to do the different activities under Map Skills for a geography
lesson in Brain Pop. The activities under this lesson includes games, videos, quizzes, readings, activities, and

making maps. Brain pop also allows students to do all of the activities, watch the videos, and take the quizzes
in other languages. This benefits the students who are ELL’s by allowing them to do the activities and learn
the content in a language that they understand. The different activities in this lesson allow students to be
engaged in different ways through auditory, visual, and interaction activities. Action and Expression are
shown through the creating games that students are able to do in this lesson about maps.

Lesson idea implementation:

I will first present the lesson by introducing the standard, and what the objectives are for this lesson. I will
then explain to the class what they will be doing for this lesson. As I address the standards, the students will
watch and follow along on their devices to know where they are supposed to go, and what activities they can
do that correlate with the lesson. I will give the students thirty minutes to complete at least three different
activities for that lesson on Brain Pop. One of the activities must be watching a video, and the second activity
must be taking a quiz. The students can then choose what third activity they want to do from the list given to
them under that lesson. I will set a timer, so they know when their 20 minutes for that lesson has ended. As
the students complete the quiz, they will come show me their score so I can see how much they learned from
the video, and what they still need to work on to grasp the whole concept of the lesson.

Students are able to choose the language that they need to complete this assignment, and can choose the
third activity that they want to do for the lesson. I will extend the student learning to a higher level by having
the students make a movie or a map with a group to show their understanding of the lesson at the end of the
timer for 20 minutes. They will have another 20 minutes to create a movie or map with their group, then I will
conclude the lesson by having the students present what their group created. I will provide students with
feedback by creating a rubric for their quiz that shows their score, and another rubric for their presentation
with their group. Each student will be able to look over the rubrics to see what they got correct and scored on
the quiz and group project.
Reflective Practice:
After creating this lesson, I think that the students will benefit from it. They are able to choose a third activity
after they have watched the video and taken the quiz that interests them. They then are able to get creative
with a group and make a map or movie to show their understanding of the content. Another activity that I
could do with my students for this content is have them create a map of how they get to school. They would
show their house, the school, and different buildings and landmarks that they pass to get to school. This
would allow them to continue understanding the content, and relate it to their personal lives. Students would
be able to use google maps to help them with this extended project so they can be able to see the route that
they take, and what all they pass from their house to school.
