The properties of materials

1. Surface appearance- Shiny, dull, rough or
smooth surface
2. Rigid- That cannot be bent or squashed
3. Flexible- That can be bent or squashed.
4. Hard or soft
5. Malleable- That can be shaped by
hammering or by pressing.
6. Brittle- That breaks suddenly if it is bent or
hit.
7. Absorbent- That has holes in its surface
through which water can pass and also has
spaces inside where the water can be
collected.
8. Waterproof- That does not let water pass
through it. There are two kinds- Water
Resistant and Water Repellent. Water
resistant has holes through which water can
pass through but they have elements that
make the water gather up into large
droplets that cannot pass through the
material. Water Repellent does not have any
holes in it through which water can pass.
9. Transparent- That allow light to pass
through from it.
10. Translucent- That allows some of the light
to pass through and other to reflect from
the surface.
11. Opaque- That do not let any light to pass
through so it reflects the light back.
12. Heat Conductor- That allows heat to pass
through.
13. Heat insulator- That does not allow heat to
pass through.
14. Electrical Conductor- That allows electric
current to flow through it.
15. Electrical Insulator- That does not allow
electric current to flow through it.
