*To start with / It's often said that/ Many people claim that/ In this day and age/ .... is a
hotly-debated topic that often divides opinion
OPINIÓN
Para dar nuestra opinión en inglés, vamos a dejarnos de usar expresiones como: "in my
opinion", "from my point of view", etc. Es verdad, son correctas pero no molan. Los
profesores quieren algo que no sea lo típico. Es mejor usar algo diferente para demostrar
nivel, como por ejemplo:
*It seems to me that / The way I see it / I think it is useless to mantain that/ If I were in
your place, I would / I would like to point out that/ as far as I am concerned/ From
where I stand (mi punto de vista) / My standpoint (mi perspectiva) / As far as I can see
it (hasta donde yo se)/ As I can see it (como yo lo veo)
VENTAJAS Y DESVENTAJAS
Ya está bien de usar " advantages and disadvantages". Vamos a por algo que suene
mejor:
* On the plus side (por el lado bueno) /upsides and downsides (ventajas y desventajas) /
pitfalls (desventajas)/ drawbacks (desventajas)/ the ups and downs...
AÑADIR ÉNFASIS
*Needless to say (no es necesario decir..) / There's little doubt that (no hay duda de
que...) / We can't overlook the fact that / We can't miss out the fact that (no podemos
pasar por alto el hecho de que / It goes without saying ( no es necesario decir...)
ACLARAR ALGO
Podemos usar " I mean" pero no todo el tiempo. No se vosotros, pero yo soy mucho de
usar " I mean". Entonces, siempre tenía que buscar otras opciones para no sonar como
un disco rayado...y como no, para mostrar mi nivel.
En vez de decir los típicos "for instance" / "for example". Vamos a usar los siguientes:
EXPRESAR CONTRASTE
*Regardless of the fact that/ in spite of the fact that/ Yet ( sin embargo)
AÑADIR INFORMACIÓN
*What's more
/ not only but also
/ in the same way
/ Apart from this
/ On top of that...
EXPRESAR REALIDAD
FINALIZAR
*All in all
/ taking everything into account/
/ to sum up
/ as has been discussed
/ last but not least
/ all things considered
/ taking everything into consideration
/ weighing up both sides of the argument
/ on the whole
/ by and large....
