ABSTRACT

From the inception of Information and Communication Technology in

education, teachers’ ICT adoption has been one of the main concerns in the 21st Century
Education. In the recent years, several studies adopt a rather limited view for focusing only
to the factors affecting the technology-adoption of teachers and their perception on
integrating it to the teaching-learning process.

The present study was centered on the individual ways of teachers in trying
to digitalize themselves and how they try to adapt to innovation in education to cope with
the learning strategies of their pupils. Through thorough analysis of interview data, two
main themes of teachers’ ways of adopting Information and Communication Technology
in education were successfully revealed: Awareness and Adaptation. Along with this, the
study also revealed the perception of teachers towards institutionalizing the use of
Information and Communication technology in education and their encountered barriers
on integrating it which involved factors under teacher-level, school-level, and system-
level.

This qualitative study used phenomenological approach. A combination of

purposive random sampling and criterion sampling was used in selecting participants who
were teaching for 10 years and over and currently in service at Sillawit Elementary School.

In order to fully implement Information and Communication technology in

education, it is very important to understand the own perceived ways of teachers in
adapting to the changes brought by technology. Teachers are the main influencer and the
driving force of the education process. Hence, it is crucial to acknowledge their perception
on ICT adoption, their ways of adopting it, their perceived barriers, and formulated
interventions/actions to fully implement ICT in education. The analysis revealed how
teachers own ways on adopting ICT play a significant part in bridging the tech gap in
education.
