1. INTRODUCTION
This report is a summary write-up of the as-built structural elements for a

double storey with basement residential building, built at plot 56, Ruretse, built
under the supervision and inspection of the engineer. The report is intended to

provide information on the built structural elements critical for a safe and
functioning structure through its design life. Structural elements were inspected

in stages outlined below and checked if they correspond with drawings issued
by the engineer. In addition some tests were done and results confirmed to

comply with standards and regulations outlined in the design.

2
2. DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY
The structure is a residential, double storey, unit structure built on plot 56,

Ruretse for Marksmen Technology Systems (Pty) Ltd. The functionality of the
structure is for residential purpose.

3. STRUCTURAL SYSTEM OF THE BUILDINGS

The structure was designed so that all elements are load bearing that is walls
are designed to carry loads, as well as slabs, beams and columns till

foundations. The load transfer system is from top to bottom through slabs to
beams to columns and finally to the foundation. All concrete elements were

designed to have strength of 30Mpa and load bearing walls masonry units were

designed using 14Mpa brick units.

3
4. SITE PREPARATION
1000mm layer of top soil was scraped from the site to insure all the remaining
and the natural ground level to be referenced does not have humus.

5. SETTING OUT
Setting out was done correctly and according to the drawing and was approved

by the council representative

6. TRENCHES &COLUNM BASES

All trenches and column bases were excavated to a minimum base depth of

3500mm, backfilling, soilcreting and compactions were sufficiently done as

confirmed by the attached laboratory tests reports attached to this report.

7. SUB-BASE COMPACTION
G5 material was compacted to 95% MOD AASHTO in layers of 150mm were

used to fill up trenches to the desired foundation depth for the column bases.

8. REINFORCED CONCRETE STRIP FOOTING AND BASE

Reinforcements were placed as per the design as shown on the attached as built

drawings concrete of 30Mpa was poured.

4
9. SUBSTRUCTURE
The substructure of the building is a minimum of 300mm reinforced

underground space with a slab on top and access staircase

10. GROUND FLOOR SLAB AND VERANDAHS

Ground floor slab is the substructure top slab.

11. SUPERSTRUCTURE
The main load bearing members were a system of slabs, beams and columns
and bricks monolithically connected to transfer load to the ground. Columns

and Beams were constructed as per the design, the slab was re-modeled and a
system of Tass Lightweight decks were used and the design as given by the

suppliers were satisfactory.(slab drawings attached as an annex).

Partition and wall closures was brickworks of 115mm and 350mm respectively

12. PLUMBING, MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL

Electrical and Mechanical installation followed designs from the respective
consultants and installation was inspected by design engineers during

construction.

13. ROOF
The roof is a concrete slab constructed and designed as part of the reinforced

concrete frame of the building.

5
14. CONCLUSION
The structure was build according to the design and is considered safe and

functionally, under the expected loads.
