(harmonic or sub-harmonic oscillation of the device or its associated burden).
Each CCVT/CVT shall be supplied complete with corona free clamp type HV
terminal connectors, grounding terminals, secondary terminal boxes and
supporting steel structures, as specified.

substantially zero burden, has its secondary terminals short-circuited, and
the short-circuit is suddenly removed, the peak of the secondary voltage
shall revert t a value which does not differ from its normal value by more
than 10% after ten cycles of rated frequency.

circuit is suddenly removed, ferro-resonance shall not be sustained for
more than 2 seconds.

3. CONSTRUCTION
N
3.1 General
The high voltage capacitor elements shall be made of high quality paper and
aluminum foil and shall be properly assembled to minimize changes in
capacitance with time and temperature. They shall be enclosed in an oil-filled
porcelain chamber, hermetically sealed with oil-resistant and weather proof
gaskets. The chamber shall be equipped with a bellows or gas cushion expansion
device. Necessary steps shall be taken to ensure free expansion of oil and gas in
the temperature range specified.
This document is property of Design NTDC. No Part of this can be modified or used for any purpose other than its designated purpose.
A dust proof and weather proof base housing shall be provided at the base of the
high voltage capacitor stack, containing the intermediate potential transformer,
compensation devices, ferro-resonance suppression devices and protective
devices.
7
The insulators shall be manufactured from wet type porcelain and shall be suitable
for continuous outdoor service. The porcelain shall be constructed so as to
01
produce a uniform electrical stress distribution throughout and shall contain no
voids, be leak proof at all temperature and shall be guaranteed to be within the
specified RIV range.
-2
The HF tap and the extra high rated intermediate voltage tap shall be brought out
0C
from the capacitor into the electromagnetic unit by means of porcelain bushings.

N
The primary neutral connection shall be brought out through the welded steel
plate tank wall or cover, with a dry polyurethane type bushing, capable of
withstanding a 4 kV, 50 Hz test for connection to a neutral conductor.
The CCVTs/CVTs shall be supplied with corona free 4-bolt clamp type terminal
connectors, plated for connecting aluminium bus as specified in the Specifications
Drawings for 500 kV and 220 kV CCVTs/CVTs respectively including hardware
required to bolt the connectors to CCVTs/CVTs high voltage terminals.
This document is property of Design NTDC. No Part of this can be modified or used for any purpose other than its designated purpose.
3.5 Secondary Terminals, Terminals and Marshalling Boxes
The secondary leads shall be brought out through the capacitive potential devices
tank wall by means of multiple bushings, equipped with connectors for 2.5 to 10
mm² stranded copper conductor and shall terminate in a low voltage weather
proof box mounted on the side of the tank. Secondary terminals shall be labeled
with engraved stainless steel or escutcheon plate labels, to be approved by the
Engineer Mcbs with alarm contacts shall be provided for each core in the terminal
box for protection against faults in the cable connections between the terminal
box and the marshalling box. Protective characteristics of the mcbs shall be
coordinated with the rating of the CCVTs/CVTs as well as with the down steam
protective devices.
The terminal box and the cabinets containing the PLC accessories and the PLC
tuning units shall be located in such a manner that they will line up when the
CCVTs are banked in line for three phase operation.
The name plate shall be fixed at the outside of the terminal box to be visible with
7
the box closed. Connection diagram shall be affixed inside the secondary terminal
box so that it can be easily read while working in the box.
01
A marshalling box shall be erected on centre phase supporting structure
containing isolating type terminals to all secondary circuits, 2 mcbs (high speed
-2
CCVT/CVT protection switches compatible with speed of the distance relays,
with alarm contacts), two mcbs for metering and one mcb with auxiliary contact

illumination. There shall be a single phase power socket inside each marshalling
box. An mcb with auxiliary contact shall be provided for switching ON/OFF the
O
AC power supply to the heating, illumination and power socket. The mcb shall
also be equipped with sensitive earth fault protection for personnel safety.
N
The name plate shall contain all information as specified for rating plates and
markings in the latest edition of relevant IEC Publications.
4. TESTS
4.1 General
The CCVTs/CVTs shall be subjected to tests in the presence of the Engineer for
conformity to the requirements of the Specifications. All tests shall be performed
with the actual electromagnetic unit. The tests shall be made in accordance with
the latest issues of relevant IEC Publications.
Six (6) certified copies of the tests made, and of the results thereof, after the tests
are made shall be furnished by the Contractor to the Engineers, for approval.
The results of these tests shall be in such a form so as to provide means of
determining compliance with the applicable Specifications, for the material
tested. If any item is of a new design or if essential parts have been redesigned,
