TEACHING A LOT OF ENGINEERING

As a final exam to the english class, we have to teach to Daniel something about our
degrees. Well, I am student of Electrical Engineer in the District University, the Electrical
Engineering is “the mother” of the Engineers; in this degree is about the generation,
transmission and distribution of electric power as illustrated in the figure.

The number one is Generation and in this point like the name said, the power is generated
by hydric centrals, photovoltaic cells, thermal power stations, among others. In Colombia
the 70% is generated by hydroelectric centrals because we have fast flowing rivers. In the
number two, we have Transmission and this is in charge of convert low voltage to high
voltage and vary between different voltages (voltage value) to avoid losses. So the task of
the distribution lower the voltage level by means of three-phase transformers. And finally
in the Commercialization are the final consumers that we are all of us.
My career consists of 10 semesters but anyone can finish in this time because is so difficult.
In my second semester I saw a subject called "circuits 1" . In this matter they taught us
something very simple but fundamental for electrical engineers and it is Ohm's Law.
As in the image, “V” represent voltage in volts, “I” represent current on intensity and “R”
means resistance. The Ohm’s Law in words is: The voltage is equal to the current that passes
through a conductor, multiplied by the resistance that opposes the passage of current
through it.
This equation is quite important since at its base the most difficult problems of all
engineering arise.
I think my career is pretty good, because almost nobody is encouraged to study it, for this
reason and there is a lot of demand in the electrical sector and many engineers are needed
in the world.
The funniest part of all is when we meet in laboratories and for different reasons we exploit
things. We learn from all this but we also have fun, except when it is expensive things that
explode.
This is simply an introduction to what Electrical Engineering is, since it covers fascinating
topics but I'm sure you will not understand me. Thanks for everything taught during this
course, because with certainty it will be useful for my life and my career.
