Lira University was established as a Public University by Statutory Instrument 2015 No.35, of
July 16th 2015 to expand access to equitable Higher Education in the country and to respond to
the critical Human Resource Development needs of the country. The University is governed by
the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 as amended 2006 of the Republic of
Uganda. The University is located in the Lango Sub-region in Northern Uganda, Lira District,
10km from Lira Town at Ayere Village, Barapwo Parish, Lira Sub County. In order to fulfill the
current mandate and to position the University to meet all it’s objectives and planned activities.

Job Title: Associate Professor (1 Post)

Purpose of the Job


To support the development and Implementation of the University academic research and
development programmes.

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:


o Instruct and evaluate the performance of students in the specific area of specialization.
o Conduct academic research and publish research findings which contribute to the
University’s research profile.
o Develop and present academic research proposals for funding.
o Provide technical support to other academic staff in the area of specialization
o Participate in the university curriculum review and development in his/ her area of
specialization.
o Coordinate the development of manuals and kits for the conduct, supervision and
evaluation of practical assignments to students
o Supervise and evaluate the performance of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students’
academic research.
o Provide practical knowledge of current issues and trends in the university curriculum
reviews, development and implementation.
o Provide skills in research project writing, implementation and supervision
o Mentor young staff in the Faculty.

o PhD in Public Health or related field
o Specialization in Epidemiology and Biostatistics is added advantage
o Masters of Public Health or Environmental Health from recognized institution

DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY


Job Title: Senior Lecturer (1 Post)

Purpose of the Job


To take a lead role in research, teaching, curriculum development in the field of obstetrics and
Gynaecology and provision of curative and preventive health care services in accordance with
National Health Policies.
(a) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Teaching Responsibilities:


o Teach Postgraduate and Undergraduates Students as well as other health sciences
students.
o Provide monitoring and enhancement of quality teaching within the department.
o Participate in University staff development initiatives related to learning and teaching.
o Supervise undergraduate and graduate students
o Develop innovative and attractive courses, shape and influence curriculum development
and actively contribute to the review of courses in accordance to the departmental
strategy
o Engage with other researchers internally, nationally and internationally and contribute to
the research objectives of the University.
o Advise, mentor and support junior colleagues
o Supervise the work of others for example in research teams and postgraduate studies.
o Plan, coordinate and conduct operational research in his/her specialty.
o Assess and grade students in the University.

(ii) Clinical responsibilities


o Diagnose and treat Obstetrics and Gynaecological conditions.

Job Title: Technician-Pharmacy (2 Posts)

Report to: Head of Department

Purpose of the Job:

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:


o Planning for dispensing activities in the hospital;
o Registering all medicines given to patients;
o Advising patients and attendants on proper use and storage of medicines;
o Advising Clinicians and other Health Professionals on prescriptions;
o Making requisitions for medicines and health supplies from stores;
o Assisting in the Preparation of quality compounded medicines and infusions;
o Reporting expired and damaged medicines;
o Compiling and submitting reports; and
o Participating in research activities.
o Maintaining stock cards and books

o Must have a Diploma in Pharmacy or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
o Must be registered and licensed with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
o At least five(5) years of clinical experience from reputable organization or institution
o Must have credit passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at ‘O’ level.
o At least a principal pass in either Physics, Chemistry or Biology at ‘A’ level.

Senior Lecturer (1 Post)

Purpose of the Job


To take a lead role in research, teaching, curriculum development in the field of General Surgery
and provision of curative and preventive health care services in accordance with National Health
Service policies.

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:

o Teach Postgraduate and Undergraduates Students as well as other Health sciences
students.
o Provide monitoring and enhancement of quality teaching within the department.
o Participate in University staff development initiatives related to learning and teaching.

and actively contribute to the review of courses in accordance to the departmental
