Properties of Nickel
- Atomic number 28 (twenty-eight)
- Density = 8.90kg/dm3 (eight point ninety kilograms per
cubic decimetre/ per decimetre cubed)
- Melting temperature = 1453oC (one thousand four
hundred and fifty-three degrees Celsius)
- Thermal conductivity = 90.5 W (ninety point five Watts)
- Tensile strength = 370 … 700 N/mm2 (from three hundred
and seventy to seven hundred newtons per square
milimetre)
- Yield strength = 70 MPa (seventy megapascals)
- Elastic Modulus = 197 … 225 GPa (from one hundred and
ninety-seven to two hundred and twenty five gigapascals)
- Elongation at fracture = 28 % (twenty-eight per cent)
Task 2
Properties of Lead
- Atomic number 82
- Density = 11.3kg/dm3
- Melting temperature = 327oC
- Thermal conductivity = 35.2 W
- Tensile strength = 10 … 20 N/mm2
- Yield strength = 7 … 8 MPa
- Elastic Modulus = 17.5 GPa
- Elongation at fracture = max. 50 %
Fraction, Power
Roots
Fraction consist of numerator (above
the fraction bar) and a denominator
(below the fraction bar)
e.g.

1 1 1 2
2 3 4 5
๏ Powers mean to raise the value of a number to
an exponent. Exponents allow us to write
multiplications in short.
e.g. an = y
a is the base
n is the exponent
y is the exponential value
x2 means x is raised to the power of two, or x is
squared.
x3 means x is raised to the power of three, or x
is cubed.
๏ Roots are written with a radical sign √. You can
have a square root, a cube root or the nth root of
a number
