Roles required in multicam
Camera operator - simultaneously record the scene from different angles and move appropriately. The camera operator will have to
communicate with the director and the vision mixer in order for them to know if they are doing their job correctly. When done correctly it
makes a good program but when not it make the program look unprofessional.

Sound mixer - puts all the live sound, such as the dialogue and crowd etc in to the scene as well as any sound effects etc. works with
vision mixer to make sure sound and visuals are mixed correctly and the are in sync. When done correctly the sound can be heard
clearly without any issues but if done incorrectly, there will be problems with the audio and visuals being synced as well as there being
different problems with it.

Vision mixer - has the power to change the camera and cut to different shots etc. Will work with the director, camera operators and
sound operator to make the production run smoothly and everything looks aesthetically pleasing. This can create a good edit and
transition to different scenes etc. however if not done right can create a sloppy program.

Director - makes all the major decisions on set to do with costume, set, props etc. Works with the whole crew to make sure everyone
is doing their job properly and spreading their creativity. If this role is done effectively then the crew will work efficiently as well as the
program being creative and organised. If the director does not do his job correctly then the whole program could crumble and be bad.
Set designer - someone that designs the set and makes the decisions o the looks of the set. The set designer will work with the floor
manager and director to see if the set is to the directors standards but also safe enough to meet the floor managers standards. This will
be effective if the director and set designer both create the image and vision they want to portray to the audience in a safe way for nthe
cast, but if done wrong can cause harm to the cast or create a poor program.

Lighting desk - operates the lighting on set, more specifically the change in lighting, they will speak with the director to get their vision
on the show and how the lighting will work well with it. This can either create the right effect and fit with the set or this can make it look
fake or the light can be too harsh and leave a unprofessional feel.

Floor manager - gives information to the crew from the director in the control room. They will work with the director to ensure the rest
of the crew are doing their roles safely, they will make sure loose cables are taped down etc. This will prevent anything bad from
happening to the crew and will effectively act as a walking hazard perception. If done incorrectly it can cause damage to the set,
equipment and the cast.

Graphics generation - makes sure everything is set up before the show safely as well as making sure everything arrives on time
(Graphics wise) This will effectively portray any images needed on screen and will work together with the vision mixer and director to
create the intended effect. However it will need to be done effectively without any problems to ensure it is not implemented sloppy.

Vt operator - someone that operates the cuts between the live shooting and the pre-recorded visuals. This job goes hand in had with
the Vision Mixer as they will need to cross over from each other. This will effectively show anything that isn't live.

Presenter (where appropriate) - presents the show, talks to guests, makes sure that everything in front of the camera goes smoothly.
If they speak with confidence and remember lines then the program will come across effectively but if not then the program will seem
unprofessional. They will talk to the director to get a feel for the ideas and portrayal of the show.
Monki B2B Purple Disco Machine - Radio 1 in Ibiza 2018 - Café
Mambo
I felt the best performance to analyse would be a dj set as it would have various shots all with different purposes. One example
would be the establishing shot which allows us as an audience to see the location which would be cafe mambo Ibiza. This allows
the audience who are not there but watching it on a screen where the location of the event is. This not only helps to promote the
place in which the event is occurring. There are also other shots such as close ups of the dj which allow us to see who is
performing and their reactions to the performance. We also see shots of the crowd, both long shots and close ups which show
their reactions to the set but also the amount of people in the crowd and how busy it can be. We can also see close ups of the the
dj equipment and what the 2 djs are doing in order to manipulate the different tracks and mix the music, giving us some insight into
what is going on behind the scenes. The lighting desk would be used massively within the set to use all the colourful lights, and
the djs would be the live sound mixers. Graphics generators would also be used to create different images etc.
Colombia v England - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ - Match 56

There are many different cameras used within the match in order to catch different shots
and angles for slow motion shots/action replays, as well as the new addition of VAR which
allows the referee to see the action of an important decision.

We can also get shots of the play from different angles and see how the play went clearer
with close ups and high angle shots etc. the main camera which is used to capture the full
game stays in the same place in order to keep the 180 degree rule present so it doesn’t
confuse the viewers, as the teams switch sides at half time.

A vision mixer and a vt operator would work hand in hand to show action replays and live
action. There would also be a presenter at the start which would introduce the two teams
etc. A sound mixer would also be used to lower the volume of the crowd in order for the
viewers at home to hear the commentary.
Friends - Unagi
This is a situational comedy which would be scripted and would therefore need a director who lets the actors know what to do as
well as all the other roles. There would be a set designer would would make sure there is continuity to the last episode and that the
set is laid out properly as well as a floor manager who would relay information to the camera operators and lighting desk etc. the
lighting desk would try to create the most naturalistic lighting for the scene. There would also be a sound mixer who would mix in
the sound of the studio audience/laugh track with the dialogue of the characters.

Multicam would be use in many ways throughout the sitcom but the main use would be for comedic purposes, but so the scene can
flow without stopping, to keep continuity. This is shown through the narrative of the scene where the dialogue and action flow
continuously with each other without a stop but there is a change in camera shot from a close up to a wide shot, suggesting the
idea of multicam and how a vision mixer would do this in order to let the scene flow live and saves them time as they do not have to
stop and record the scene again.
Archie's Killer is Revealed! - EastEnders - Live Episode Highlight -
BBC One
Soaps are similar set up to sitcoms but are done to create suspense or dramatic purpose. Multicam is used within this scene
to show the different reactions and dramatic moments of different cameras in the scene. This episode was filmed live so the
vision mixer would have to change the camera shot as the narrative would all be done in one take. A director would let the
cast know where to be and what to do before hand.

A sound mixer would be able to merge all the dialogue of the characters together and make it sound natural. The use of the
multicam allows us to see the different characters and how they add to the dramatic effect. The sound mixer would also have
to add in the trademark “dum dums” which is found at the end of every episode of Eastenders and also adds to the drama
due to the episode ending o some sort of drama cliffhanger.
