Dimensions:
Beam, b x h = 300 mm x 500 mm
Slab Thickness, t = 100 mm
Column 400 x 400 mm
L1 = L2 = 6 m; L3 = 7.5 m; S = 2.5 m
Loads:
Dead load = 5.0 kPa
Live Load = 3.6 kPa
f’c = 27.5 MPa
fy = 415 MPa
A rectangular fixed ended beam, 7.5 m long, has a width of 350 mm and an effective depth of 550 mm. It
carries a factored uniformly distributed load of 90 KN/m. Concrete cover is 70 mm from the centroid of
bars. Concrete compression strength is 28 MPa and steel yield strengths are 414.6 MPa for longitudinal
bars and 275 MPa for stirrups. Use normal weight concrete.
a) Determine the shear strength provided by concrete if it is subjected to shear and flexure only.
b) Determine the shear strength provided by concrete if it is subjected to an axial compressive force
of 80 KN
c) Determine the factored shear force at
6m critical section of the beam.
wu d) Determine the factored moment at
critical section of the beam
e) Calculate the spacing of stirrups at mid-
span.
