About IEI
The Institution of Engineers(India) or IEI is the largest
multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15
engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform
from which to share professional interest. IEI has membership
strength of over 0.8 million. Established in 1920, with its
headquarters at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata-700020, IEI has
served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades. In this
period of time it has been inextricably linked with the history
of modern-day engineering.
In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains
the only professional body in India to be accorded this honor
Today its quest for professional excellence has given it a place
of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant organization
across the globe. IEI functions among professional engineers,
academicians and research workers. It provides avast array of

country. The Institution has established R&D centers at
various locations in the country and also provides grant-in-aid
to its members to conduct research and development on

Examinations in different Engineering disciplines, the
successful completion of which is recognized as equivalent to
Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized
Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources

About the College:
Aditya College of Engineering &Technology (ACET) is
run by Sarojini Educational Society, Kakinada with the
approval of AICTE and Permanently Affiliated to JNTUK
Kakinada, recognized by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh and is
accredited by NAAC. The college also recognized by UGC
under section 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956. Situated in
an eco-friendly area of 25 acres with thick greenery at
Surampalem, Gandepalli Mandal, East Godavari District,
Andhra Pradesh. The college is 15km away from Samalkot
Railway station on Howrah- Chennai Railway line in South
Central Railway. The college is 35 km away from Kakinada
and Rajamahendravaram on ADB Road.
About the Department:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was started
during 2004 and has an excellent group of dedicated &
motivated staff having good experience in Teaching, Industry
& Research.
The Department offers B.Tech in Mechanical
Engineering with an intake of 240 and M.Tech in CAD/CAM
and Thermal Engineering with an intake of 18 each.
About workshop:
Welding as it is normally understood today is
comparatively a new comer amongst the fabrication processes
through Smith forging to join metal pieces was practiced even
before Christ. Although there are a number of well-established
welding processes, Arc welding with coated electrodes is still
the most popular welding process, across the world.
Arc welding in its present form appeared on the industrial
scene in 1880’s. Arc welding however, was not accepted for
fabrication of critical components till about 1920 by which
time coatings for electrodes had been developed. The demand
for large scale production of heavy items like ships, pressure
vessels, construction of bridges and the like provided the
necessary impetus for welding to come of age and the Second
World War firmly established it as the major fabrication
process. Welding processes widely used in the industry
include Oxy-acetylene, manual metal arc or Shielded Metal
Arc (SMA), Submerged Arc (SA), Gas Metal Arc (GMA),
Gas Tungsten arc welding (GTA), Resistance Welding,
Thermit Welding and Cold Pressure Welding. Most of these
processes have special fields of influence like Resistance
welding is popular with the automobile industry, Thermit
welding for joining rails in situ, GMAW is particularly suited
for welding of low carbon steel structures as also welding of
Stainless steel and Aluminium, GTAW is more popular with
aeronautical and nuclear industries, SAW for ship building,
cold pressure welding for food processing popular with
aeronautical and nuclear industries.

Resource Person
Dr. T. Srihari has done his Ph.D. in welding Technology
from IIT, Delhi in the year 1993. He has published quite a
good number of papers in various National and International
Conferences and Journals. He also conducted several
Workshops and Conferences in Welding Technology. He has
26 years of experience in teaching UG & PG students and
worked in many colleges which include, Vasavi College of
Engineering, Hyderabad, and Sri Indu College of
Engineering & Technology, Ibrahimpatnam, Hyderabad. He
also worked in the capacity of Principal in TKR College of
Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad, Aurora Research
and Technological Institute, Bandlaguda, Bhaskara
Engineering College, Hyderabad and SLC’s Institute of
Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad. He has also guided
two Ph.Ds. under Osmania University, Hyderabad.
