1. June month was hottest ever recorded on Earth

Last month was the hottest June ever recorded worldwide.

• This is according to the data provided by the Copernicus Climate Change Service, implemented by the
European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts on behalf of the European Union.
• The data showed that European temperatures were around 2 degrees Celsius hotter than normal.
• Globally Earth was 0.1 degree Celsius hotter than the previous June record in 2016.

2. The US designates Balochistan Liberation Army as a terror group

The United States has designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which is fighting Pakistani rule in
Balochistan province, as a terrorist organisation.

• BLA is an armed separatist group that targets security forces and civilians, mainly in ethnic Baloch areas
of Pakistan.
• The department has also made it a crime for anyone in the US to assist the BLA terrorists and freezing
any US assets they may have.
• BLA carried out several terrorist attacks last year, including a suicide attack in August that targeted
Chinese engineers in Balochistan and an attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi in November that
claimed four lives.

3. Govt extends Kisan Credit Card facility to fisheries, animal husbandry sector

Government has extended the facility of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) to fisheries and animal husbandry farmers to
help them meet their working capital needs.

• The KCC facility will help fisheries and animal husbandry farmers to meet their short term credit
requirements of rearing of animals, poultry birds and other aquatic organisms and capture of fish.
• Under the Kisan Credit Card facility, for the existing KCC holders, the credit limit is three lakh rupees to
meet their working capital requirements.
• Under KCC, interest subvention is available for animal husbandry and fisheries farmers at the rate of two
per cent per annum.

4. Airtel Payments Bank ties up with Bharti AXA Life Insurance to offer term insurance
Airtel Payments Bank has partnered with Bharti AXA Life Insurance to offer the Bharti AXA Life POS Saral
Jeevan Bima Yojana through banking points across India.

• The Bharti AXA Life POS Saral Jeevan Bima Yojana provides a pure term insurance cover of up to Rs 5
lakh.
• The insurance scheme will leverage Airtel's distribution network by being available at more than 60,000
banking points.
• The life cover option is between 3-5 lakh. It will soon be extended to up to Rs 25 lakh.

5. Purwar assumed additional charge as BSNL CMD

The government has appointed MTNL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) P K Purwar as the CMD of
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL).

• He will replace Anupam Shrivastava as the CMD of BSNL.


• After four-and-a-half years of leading BSNL through tough times, Shrivastava retired on June 30.

6. Shakib becomes the first player to score 500 runs, take 10 wickets in WC history
Bangladesh's all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has become the first player in the history to score more than 500 runs
and take 10 wickets in a single World Cup campaign.

• He achieved the feat against India in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
• Against India, Shakib scored 66 runs and took one wicket.
• The left-handed batsman has scored 542 runs in the tournament. He has scored two centuries and three
half-centuries.

7. Odisha to host 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship

Odisha Government is set to host the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship at the Jawaharlal Indoor
Stadium in Cuttack from 17 to 22 July.

• This championship will see participation from some of the best players from across the globe.
• The tournament has received a good entry with 14 associations, consisting India, Singapore, Malaysia,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, England, Scotland, Wales, Jersey, Australia, Cyprus, South Africa, Nigeria,
Pakistan.

8. 34th edition of Hyderabad Sailing Week inaugurated

The 34th edition of the national level sailing championship, 'Hyderabad Sailing Week' was inaugurated by
Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan.

• The championship held every year in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad is going to be held
at the Hussain Sagar Lake.
• The event will take place from July 2 till July 7.

Points to Remember

• Hussain Sagar is a necklace-shaped lake in Hyderabad built by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah and named after
Hussain Shah Wali.
• It is spread across an area of 5.7 square kilometres and is fed by River Musi.

9. Dr Krishna Saksena's book 'Whispers of Time' unveiled

Dr Krishna Saksena launched her new book 'Whispers of Time' at India International Centre in New Delhi.

• The book was unveiled by Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Textiles and Minister of Women and Child
Development.
• By coming up with a new book at age 91, Saksena has proved that it is never too late to set another goal
or to dream a new dream.
• Saksena, a professor at Delhi University, is the first woman candidate from Uttar Pradesh to get a PhD
degree in English Literature in the year 1955.
