Introducing

The ubo kit is a satellite

you can build yourself.
This guide will give you
all the information you
need to assemble, code
and operate your ubo.

After that,
it’s up to you.

Welcome to space!
We’ve included a suite of sensors
for you to learn about the
fundamentals of satellite design.
After that you can use the kit to
develop your own mission concepts.

Use the inertial measurement unit,

temperature sensor or light
sensors to monitor the satellite
state and broadcast it back
to the ground.

Design your own experiments

using the Proto-Sense Board to
prototype your own hardware
on-board your ubo.

Fly your satellite and

broadcast the data to
the ground via UHF radio.

MINIATURISATION OF SATELLITES

The satellite is built with the

same capability as a larger
satellite but on a smaller
scale. The satellite has on
board a Proto-sense board
which allows you to add a
payload (an module of your
choice to measure
something of your choice.)

5x5x5 cm
The miniaturisation of satellites
has allowed increased innovation
and accessibility to new entrants
and users.

The miniaturisation has happened

due to the need for making our
personal gizmos more compact
and affordable. Researchers have
taken advantage by using these
electronics for satellites.

Now there is less risk associated with a mission

launch. the cost of launching and building
a small satellite is considerably less compared to its
predecessors in orbit. This is mostly because larger
satellites need a dedicated launcher. Small satellites
can piggyback on other missions to get into orbit.
