registered in BAHAMAS and classified under ABS class. She is a bulk carrier with a DWT of 56697.4 mt, a length
of 189.99 m, breadth 32.26 m, and depth 18 m. She’s got four cranes & Grabs and five hatches.

CHARTS:
Vsl is paperless.
No paper charts to be used for navigation. All other paper charts have been removed from bridge and kept in pilot
cabin.
Contract with Kelvin Hughes for chart and publication supply has been limited to miscellaneous publication only.
Due to fault in display screen of work station 01 of ECDIS, vsl is carrying paper charts for upcoming voyage till
the repairs are carried out. Repaire is expected to be carried out at Singapore. Class exemption certificate is issued
for the same.

NTM’s:

NTM last received on board is 39/2018.

CHARTCO SERVICE IS STOPPED AS PER NEW COMPANY CIRCULAR NO 03/2016 VESSEL HAS e-NP
AND ADP’S.

(3) T&P notices. T & P file is not required to be maintained as per Company policy if the ship has
Chartco in working condition. As vessel is using only ECDIS, no T&P’s are required as there is AIO
overlay on ECDIS.

(4) ALL OTHER PUBLICATIONS: are kept on shelves opposite to chart table. Publications should be
maintained onboard as per OMA25 (pasted besides the shelve.

Please read company circular 03/2016 for further clarifications.

MEDICAL LOCKER:

Second officer is in charge of the medical locker.

As per the company HSSE manual, the medical locker has to be maintained as per MSN 1768.

Medical locker inventory updated and prepared Narcotics list kept with Master.

Medical Chest is expiring on 28 July 2018

Requisition for medicines raised.

STATIONARY:

Inventory is pasted on Nav locker door.


Requisition for printer cartridges raised. All other required items available in good quantity.

BRIDGE EQUIPMENTS:

All bridge equipment’s are working satisfactory.

(1) ECDIS:
ECDIS is the primary means of navigation.
Both ECDIS working satisfactory.
Gateway with Transas is been installed and ECDIS is online.
Procuring ENC and Updates is now via Navi Planner software and works under Pay as You Sail (PAYS system).
Procedure for procuring/updating ENC is attached with this note and will explain too.
Making route and other functioning remain same.

(2) RADAR: Magnetrons for both the radars are renewed ON 9 TH AUG and 10TH AUG 2017 and there are 2 spare
magnetrons in the navigation locker with spare motors and fans.
Both RADAR performances – satisfactory.

3. GMDSS

GMDSS annual survey done in JULY 2017. All GMDSS equipment’s working satisfactory.

NAVTEX printer working satisfactory.

Adequate papers available for all equipment’s, kept in Nav locker.

4. GYRO COMPASS
Gyro and auto pilot working satisfactory.
Gyro servicing was last carried on 29-09-2017.

5.MAGNETIC COMPASS
Working satisfactory, deviations with in limit. Deviation card overdue.

6.ALDIS LAMP
Working satisfactory, spare bulbs available.

7.GPS
Both GPS working satisfactory.

8.ECHO SOUNDER
Working satisfactory. No need to maintain log, retain print outs only.

9.SPEED LOG
Working satisfactory.

10.ANEMOMETER
Sometimes all display will go and will continuously show blinking “error”.
In that case turn off and on the breaker from the breaker panel.
Antenna of Anemometer is damaged and thus giving wrong direction and speed.
Requisition is raised for new antenna.
CAR also raised for same.

11.COURSE RECORDER
Working satisfactory. Spare stylus and paper available.

12. VDR
Working satisfactory.

13. COMMUNICATION SYSTEM – VSAT AND GLOBE i250

BRIDGE EQUIPMENT MANUAL’S: Are kept in Nav locker in a wooden box.

SAFETY OFFICER :

2nd officer and 3rd Engineer are nominated as Safety officer.


2 Safety representatives from crew to be nominated every month.

All findings to be noted in the safety officers note book and discussed with the departmental head and in HSSE
meeting. Also, mention the same points in NS5.

VICTUALING

On this ship Victualing is handled by 2/OFF. Every month give the garrets form to the chief cook and once he
updates the ROB’s you can enter the closing amounts in the form and get the victualing for the month.

Monthly victualing to be calculated and entered in Company victualing spread sheet.

PROCEDURE FOR UPDATING ADP

Procedure for updating ADP is same as before, from GCC pc and laptop. You can send email request to UKHO or
you can update online (if internet connection available)

BRIEF DESCRIPTION FOR CARGO HOLDS


The Vessel has 5 cargo holds fitted with Australian spiral ladder in the aft and vertical ladder in the forward.
Watertight bulkheads at the ends of the holds are constructed of vertically corrugated steelwork. All holds must be
checked before and after discharging/ loading for any stevedore damages). All Holds are fitted with CO2 fixed fire
extinguishing system which is to be used in case of a fire in the holds and the same lines are used for smoke sensing
from the holds. CO2 release controls are located in the CO2 room and Fire control room.
No.3 Hold is the designated Ballast hold and the procedure for Ballasting / De-ballasting is very simple as all the
valves are operated from the ship’s office.
PORT OPERATIONS

Currently Surabaya port maintaining marsec level 1.In port you will be keeping watch from 1200 to 1900 & 0000-
0500 hours. Comply with the chief officers standing orders during port watches. The tank valves for all the ballast
tanks and the hold bilges are in deck office. Chief Officer gives a discharge / loading profile plan for each port
operations. Make sure that holds are discharged/loaded as per the plan and as per chief officer’s instructions. Hold
inspection to be carried out by duty officer before and after loading and discharging cargo in a hold. During loading
and discharging, insure that vessel stays upright and not down by head. Once cargo operations are completed
ensure that all are present on board on the designated location as instructed by chief officer. Ship Search is carried
out at every departure port. Gangway log to be checked carefully and visitor’s identity cards to be checked. Ensure
deck watchman takes rounds on deck and inside accommodation. Always comply with the security levels.

BALLAST AND BILGE PUMPING ARRANGEMENT:

This ship is fitted with two ballast pumps; each with a capacity of 800 m3/hr. Stripping is done using the eductor
and separate stripping line. There are 2 educators for stripping. Since the lines are separate, de-ballasting and
stripping can be carried out at the same time.

Ballast & bilge lines pass through the keel duct. DB tank valves, cargo hold bilge valves are situated inside the pipe
tunnel. We have one hand pump should there be any problem in opening any of the valves by remote system.

Ballast/bilge operations can be carried out by remote systems located in ECR & deck office and locally from ER
upper platform forward part. Sometimes we have been facing problems for the remote operations of the valves.

APT has a manual tank valve on E/R bottom platform and is to be ballasted/de-ballasted using G.S. Pump.

GENERAL ARRANGEMENT:
 Forward & Aft mooring Lines are in good condition.
 Winches are provided with emergency stop located near each winch.
 Cooling water must be kept running during the time winches are operational.
 Cooling water valves must be closed after stations.
 During cold weather winches should be kept running for at least 15 – 30 minutes prior being put into use.
 Accommodation ladders are powered electrically.
 Switch control panel for hatch cover operation pumps is located in hydraulic pump room,
 All hatches are provided with one switch for emergency stop of hatch cover.

BERTHING UNBERTHING STATIONS:


Usually 2nd officer mans aft stations. You will have two AB’s and 1 engine hand for assistance. All shipboard
operations are conducted on Ch.71 on the hand-held VHFs. If channel has to be changed Master will tell you
accordingly.
CARGO OPERATIONS:
 5 Cargo Holds, with total cubic capacity of 71,634cu. Meters, No 3 cargo hold is the heavy weather ballast
hold.
 Vessel is fitted with 4 cranes.
 At least two persons should be present when opening or closing the hatch covers.
 Please go through Company, Master’s & Chief Officers Standing Orders to familiarize you with procedures in
detail.
 Always inspect the hold properly for any damage prior closing it, after the cargo operation. Take photographs
for evidence, ships camera is with Chief Officer.
 As ships office’ draft gauge on computer is not accurate, take manual draft at the completion of any loading or
discharging sequence, draft amidships to be taken at both sides to have an idea of a list if any.
