teacher will show a Map of Southeast Asia and
let each group identify the countries are there
in Southeast Asia.

A. ACTIVITY/MOTIVATION (Word search)
The class will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will be given a scrambled picture and let the
group arrange the picture.

B. ANALYSIS (Inquiry Approach)


Ask the students:
1. How do you find the activity?
2. What is the picture all about?
3. Based on the given activity, what do you think is our topic for today?

Since we are done with our today’s preliminary activity. We are now going to discuss the music
of Indonesia relates to its geography and culture.

INDONESIA – is extraordinarily rich. It is as busy and adaptive as its landscape and natural
beauty. The rich culture is a result of the influence of the various neighbouring countries and its

very traditional culture.
 Is an archipelago in Southeast Asia comprising approximately 17, 500 islands.
 With over 238 million, Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country and is the
fourth biggest nation of the world.
GAMELAN
 Gamelan is the traditional music from Central and East Java and Bali. It is the most
important kind of music in Indonesia and an essential part of Indonesian culture.
 The word GAMELAN comes from the ancient roots “gambel” in Bali and “gamel” in
Java. Gambel means to play, musically and gamel means hammer
JAVANESE GAMELAN
 Is known for its expensive collection of rich variety of instrument types. Besides
metallophones and gongs, there are other types of instruments which include the
following:
 Set of drums (kendhang)
 Bowed and plucked strings (rebab and celempung)
 Xylophone (gambang)
 A bamboo flute (suling)
BALINESE GAMELAN
 Very similar to Javanese Gamelan
 The music in cycle but usually faster in tempo
 Includes metallophones than gongs
 Metallophones produce very bright sound in timbre

Showing respect to the culture of other countries in terms of music styles and elements.

E. APPLICATION

Divide the class Into 4 groups. Each group will be singing “SI PATOKAAN” a famous folksong
of Indonesia.
