RE: FIELD REPORT IN REGARD TO THE PERFORMANCE OF THE MAGICAL COOK STOVES

Experimenting of the rocket cook stoves started way back in January. Educate A Child International has been working
closely and under the supervision of sun 24 solar, Florida.

Sun 24 solar has been meeting all costs related to ferrying of the clay, payment of the brick makers, transportation
to different areas and many other project costs. We are indebted to Mr. Kevin and sun 24 solar for aiding us to reach
this far.

Invention of this stove was because of the increasing desire to save the environment through clean cooking as well
as saving the women from various fumes that affect their health.

STOVE VARIATIONS

Since January. About 150 cook stoves have been given out to the public for free. These stoves were of different sizes,
for example

25x25x20 cm

25x25x30

25x25x32

25x25x36

A good number of these variations have been produced and given to the public for review.

THE FIELD STUDY

The purpose of running this study was to collect responses from the beneficiaries to assess the performance of the
stoves. The method used here was interview method and a questionnaire with alternative answers was employed.
This exercise run from 16th march to 19th March,2018.

A total of 110 beneficiaries were interviewed and these involved both women and men. This is because we have
single men who are cooking for themselves and are using the stove. The respondents were located in different areas
like kisinga sub county, bwera, Mpondwe Lubiriha town council, nyamamwamba division, bulembya division,
Kilembe sub county, buhuhira sub county, kyabarungira sub county, buyisumbu sub county, central division, rukoki,
kyarumba, nyakiyumbu sub county, mubuku, kitswamba, hima town council, among other places.

Some respondents were also recorded on camera.

FINDINGS

1. 80 Beneficiaries had completely switched to the new cook stove abandoning other cooking methods
2. 25 Beneficiaries use the stove only on important meals because they don’t want to lose it
3. 5 beneficiaries still kept their stoves because they want to take them to their villages
4. 109 respondents said the stove cooks faster. Only 1 respondent said the stove cooks slowly.
5. All the respondents said they like the new stove
6. All respondents answered that the stove has cut fire wood consumption to less than half. All respondents
admitted this.
One Kibwana Joshua said “ my neighbors are on my neck to sell them my stove because they say for me I know
where to get another one. By other way, I am now relieved of stress brought by high rate of firewood
consumption, I will make a deal with you and trade in these stoves” kibwana said.

7. The stove emits very little smoke and good for town use. Most respondents admitted
8. 5 stoves had developed vertical cracks in the top block near the firewood chamber though still cooking
perfectly.
