PROGRESS ON
project

10 November 2022

The materials needed (hugelkultur bed fence)

were sent by the city council a day before the
program started. Therefore, the hugelkultur
bed fence is set up in advance on that day so
the program can be executed without
difficulties.

In the evening, Dr. Husna and I went to the

nursery to buy topsoil. We next proceed to the
community garden to deliver the materials
required to commence the program the
following day.
PROGRESS ON
project

11 November 2022

We gathered in Pulai Flora

Community Garden at eight in
the morning. There were a
total of ten UTM students that
participated as volunteers to
assist in making the program
successful. While, there were
a total of 25 people from the
community who participated
in the program. In addition to
that, there are 3 lecturers from
UTM who are here to help
with the program.

Dr. Husna provided everyone

with the explanation of the
activities that will take place
on that day. After the
explanation has been done,
everyone take part in
completing the tasks that
were given.
Give back to the
earth with compost
The City Council has provided financial support for this program. In addition to that,
they gave the community two compost barrels that could be used in this community
garden. As a result of this, we worked together with the community to install the
compost barrels.

Knowledge Transfer :
Small Scale Composting
Dr. Hudza gave an explanation to the
community about how to make
compost on a small scale. During the
time when Dr. Hudza was giving
explanations to the community, I
assisted her in preparing the
materials.
BUILDING A HUGELKULTUR BED

Below are the steps that we took for building hugelkultur bed in the garden.
With this hugelkultur bed, the community can cultivate more easily.
AT THE END OF THE
PROGRAM, THE
FOLLOWING ISSUES
WERE IDENTIFIED:
Purchased topsoil is restricted to use in only five hugelkultur
bed. There are an additional five hugelkultur bed that are not
filled with topsoil. However, the community offered to purchase
topsoil and complete the project on their own. Therefore, Dr.
Husna gave the community leader the city council-entrusted
funds to purchase topsoil.

SELF
REFLECTION
It was a very exciting experience as I get
to spend time with the Pulai Flora
community. Also, it is a rewarding
experience in that I can build
relationships with them.

Going through this program has let me

improve my life by sacrificing my free
time to help the needs and taught me so
much that I cannot learn from books. I
have the opportunity to apply the
knowledge that I learned through this
program.

I am looking forward to the rest of my

time with them and am really glad to
have this great chance to participate in
such a meaningful and valuable
program.
