This action plan was created to plan the action steps needed to achieve a composting program with
the community at Taman Pulai Flora Garden. Composting is a natural process to turn organic
material into a soil amendment and is possible in almost every setting. Compost acts as a food
source, a probiotic, and a sponge for the soil underneath it; it makes soil more fertile and efficient,
and supports the intricate ecosystem that healthy soil keeps.
Plan of action
Introduce the basics of onsite composting to the community at Taman Pulai Flora Garden. They will
learn the important of composting, the basic ingredients needed to produce good compost, steps to
get started, and how to troubleshoot should problems arise.
i. Composting practices can help many SDGs goal, and more specifically the no poverty (1),
zero hunger (2), good health and well-being (3), clean water and sanitation (6), sustainable
cities and communities (11), responsible consumption and production (12), climate action
(13), life below water (14) and life on land (15).
ii. SDG that related to waste management : SDG 12 (responsible consumption and
production) includes targets focused on environmentally sound management of all waste
through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse (targets 12.4 and 12.5) and reduction of
food waste (target 12.3).
iii. Converting waste into compost eliminates pollution of the air, water, and soil. Waste is a
reusable resource, and it is a resource if utilized properly.
i. To educate the community of Taman Pulai Flora about the method of composting.
ii. To train the community of Taman Pulai Flora with a skill of composting.

i. Help community use fewer chemical pesticides and fertilizers, which could have positive
health effects.

Incorporation of feedback from instructor and peers into plan
i. Ask for feedback whether the community is interested in making compost or not after
the programme.
ii. Make conclusions / reflections based on the feedback given by the community.
