Rationale
• Waste management is a pressing global issue, with the World Bank reporting
an annual generation of 2.01 billion metric tons of municipal solid waste,
expected to reach 3.40 billion metric tons by 2050. This waste is typically
disposed of in landfills or incinerators, contributing to environmental and
health problems.
• Ruminant manure composting utilizes ruminants to convert organic
waste into nutrient-rich manure, while vermicomposting employs
worms to break down organic waste into valuable compost.
• They offer a sustainable solution by converting organic waste into
valuable compost products. This reduces the burden on landfills and
mitigates harmful emissions, aligning with environmentally
responsible practices.
