CWTS PROJECT PROPOSAL

Title: TALUBO: A SEMINAR ON PROMOTING ORGANIC AGRICULTURE,

SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH, AND ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

Project Proponents: BS FORESTRY | I-F | CWTS

Implementing Unit: Bicol University Guinobatan

Funding Requirement: PHP 3,000

Funding Source: Bucaf NSTP

Project Duration: April 21, 2023 (Friday) 1:00-4:00 pm

Length of Implementation:

The seminar will only be held for 1 day, yet the project's planning and execution were
accomplished within a span of three months together with the establishing of the Greenhouse.

The group will have one (1) day to conduct their seminar, in which they will discuss and promote
Organic Agriculture, Sustainable Environmental Health and Economic Sustainability

I. Objectives of the Project

The main objective of this seminar is to give knowledge, and insights, and to expand the
understanding of the target audience about organic agriculture, sustainable environmental
health, and economic sustainability. Specifically, this seminar aims to:

1. Identify the contrast between organic and traditional agriculture, noting the ideas and
environmental challenges.
2. Present the appropriate methods and strategies of organic agriculture applied to
crops.
3. Create marketing plans for organically grown materials and goods.
4. Discuss the importance of pests, diseases, and weed control;
5. Convince the participants to engage in organic farming.
II. Rationale

Organic agriculture is a system that relies on ecosystem management rather than

external agricultural inputs. It is a system that begins to consider potential environmental and
social impacts by eliminating the use of synthetic inputs (FAO, ND). Organic agriculture in most
of the barangays in Guinobatan, Albay has been noticeably deteriorating these days. This is
based on the status of the production of organic goods in the market. As we have noticed,
Guinobatan Public Market increased the prices mostly on all of the products and there are
various types of agricultural products that are limited up to this day. This may be because of the
high inflation rate in our country, but may also have caused of shortage in supply of the organic
matter and the flow of production in the farms from different parts of the Municipality.
We can say that Guinobatan, Albay is a sub-urban place, like there are barangays here
where there's just small space for gardens or plants and since we are all suffering from inflation,
everything is too pricy. That's one of the problems we've observed here in Guinobatan.
Therefore, our class decided to have a seminar on organic agriculture; sustaining environmental
health, and economic sustainability in Brgy. Ilawod, Guinobatan, Albay. Wherein we will share
our knowledge and show them that in urban gardening, just a simple 1.5 bottles or any bottles
can reduce your expenses. It doesn't require a lot of money and small space will do. It also
doesn't need any synthetic fertilizer for them to grow healthily. Our group will share knowledge
on urban gardening with fewer expenses while sustaining environmental health. Where it can
help the Guinobatan community in terms of their expenses and health. With the right knowledge
and information, we can improve our ways of living and life.

III. Project Description

a. Justification of the Project

Based on observations, inorganic agriculture is being utilized by many. It can’t be

denied that this produces high-yield crops and vegetables. In connection with this, part
of this approach is using inorganic fertilizers. To produce these high-yield crops and
vegetables, the sustainability of environmental health is being sacrificed which leads to
soil degradation and other health problems.
This seminar will give insights into the benefits of organic farming while at the
same time, it will give new ideas and opportunities to out-of-school youth and
housewives residents in Barangay Ilawod, Guinobatan, Albay.

b. Benefits Derived from the Project

It is expected that the target audience will benefit from the seminar on promoting
organic agriculture, sustaining environmental health, and economic sustainability.
Specifically, the expected benefits that will be derived are the following

● Organic Agriculture sustainability and promotion of environmental health and

economic sustainability
● Gaining knowledge about how beneficial Organic Agriculture
● Will be able to apply proper methods and strategies of organic farming in
applying to crops and to understand more about the importance of pests,
diseases, and weed control; and
● Expected to apply urban gardening with fewer expenses while sustaining
environmental health with the right knowledge and information that will help
them improve their ways of living that is truly beneficial to them.
c. Coverage

This project will cover 30 participants from a barangay specifically out-of-

school youth and housewives.

IV. Methodology

The seminar method will be employed in the project. The implementers will conduct a
barangay profiling to determine the target participants, the number of participants, and their
barangay status. Following the barangay profiling, the implementers will write a proposal letter
to the selected barangay regarding the activity that will take place at the specified time and
location.

The implementers will submit a request letter to the venue of their choice. This letter will
include the date and time of the project's execution. Simultaneously, the implementers will
consider inviting a guest speaker to be introduced and speak during the seminar.

Hence, the implementers will provide the required responsibilities and obligations to
attain the goal of this project.
V. Detailed Budgetary Requirements

The materials needed for the execution of this program will possibly be implemented
with the sharing of money by the Organizers. The source of funds for the implementation of this
preparatory program is the savings of the organizers.
