BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

• Rice is one of the staple food of the Philippines and rice self-
sufficiency has been an objective enshrined in all
government programs for the agricultural sector since the
early 1960s. Yet, self-sufficiency has remained elusive. [1]
• Nitrogen Fertilizers is to contribute to the pollution of surface
water. [2]
• LCC or Leaf Color chart was use to increase the crop yields
of rice. [3]

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

• The excessive use of fertilizers cause pollution in the water,

harmful to the ingest and it cause more burden to the farmers
to buy more fertilizers.
• The lack of real time diagnostic of the rice plant if it need more
or less fertilizers.
• Low rice yields due to the lack of fertilizer use in their fields.

OBJECTIVES

• The main objective of this study is to design and develop a

Mobile application using the camera of a Smartphone to scan
the rice leaf for its color if it needs more fertilizer or not.
Specifically, this study is expected to:
1. Get a accurate reading by using the color of the rice leaf.
2. Process the data if the color match the pre-describe data if the
field needs fertilizer.
3. Develop an easy interface to use the farmers in a accurate as
possible.
