THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Waste management reduce the effect of waste in the environment health and so on it can also
reuse or recycle resources such as paper. Cans glass and so on there is various types of waste
management that include the disposal of solid, liquid, gas or hazardous substances.
Keeping our school clean is important according to Stocker and Bobinger (2022), Keeping our
school is clean is not just janitor’s job. By helping to keep our School clean. Well begin to take
pride in our school’s appearance and well gain valuable experience caring for our environment.
To help our school reduces littering everywhere. Clean school are happier places with these
tips to reduce rubbish in the school yard, you can out back o litter and teach students valuable
lessons about being kind to their surroundings.
To clean the school and protect the environment in keeping our school clean, the students will
learn to keep their school clean. According to Reynandez (2019), No matter what size of
cleanup you organize students can keep a tally of the different single use plastics they collect and
determine how much can be recycled.
How does recycling help the environment, how to help the environment recycling according to
J.A (2021) Recycling is great, and we all know it. But how does recycling help the environment?
The important benefits of recycling.
Profit and sell the plastic bottle, millions of plastic bottle are manufactured and sold every year,
with a tremendous number of theme ending up in landfills. So why not make money out of stuff
that other simply throw away? Here is how you make some money with plastic bottle to sell to
the junk shop.
Plastic is Man-made material used to make all kinds of important things. The problem is the
most of us use more plastic we produce is designed to be used one and chucked away.
Ways to reduce garbage in the classroom. To help reduce litter that is scattered inside the
classroom according to M.M (2016) in our last teacher future, we discussed the benefit of non-
academic goals and we suggest a zero waste classroom as an option. For this month green
teachers article we have ideas for creating a zero waste classroom just in theme for the new
school year.
Among the major disciplinary problem in tertiary institution in Nigeria a solid and liquid waste
disposal constitute perennial problems to both. The school management and students as well to
research question and to hypothesis guided the study. The population compress all the fourth
year students (2746) in the thirteen faculties of Nnamdi Aziwike University. Awka expect
faculty of agriculture that hand only second year student as at 2013-2014 academic season.
To help clean the environment is a place where humans as well as plants and animals live
according to Dr. Raven Taylor (2020) it is necessary to keep our environment clean because we
get fresh air reduce population etc. an unclean environment leads to a bad condition of a society
arrival of diseases and many more related problems. To keep environment clean and healthy and
balanced natural systems are essential for adapting and supporting life on this planet.
What you can do to fight plastic population according to CHO (2018) Plastic permits just about
every aspect of our needs and because plastic is everywhere million metric tools of plastic waste
enter the oceans each year and it estimated that by 2050. The amount of plastic in the ocean and
up inside animals to a sperm whole that recently washed up in Spain has 46 pounds of plastic
waste in its got. Plastic is also population land specially a form where sewage, sludge is use for
fertilizer.
To avoid dumping trash anywhere or everywhere it is no longer uncommon to see or find large
files of waste, old house items construction waste or used products dump. By the roadside in the
forest or designed dumpling sites these trend is on the rise increasingly becoming a problem
because it hinders the object keeping the environment clean and can have serious impact on
wildlife and habitat according to environmental protection agencies and departments this small
practice is formed as illegal dumpling. It is considered unlawful account of the harm. It cases to
the environment.
Avoid burning trash at school but no person shall be allowed to burn any materials in any
quantities which shall cause the emission of toxic and poisonous fumes such material include but
not limited to plastic among others.
In flash these three words are unimportant part of sustainable living as they help to cut down on
the amount of waste we have to throw away.
To became responsible being responsible to help our environment and according to Stevor
(2016) when you think of the word responsible you may feel like it’s an adult trait better let for
more adult people waking up early to get to work on time.
To enjoy cleanliness is important to enjoy cleaning according to Combiths (2017) listen to
something while youre cleaning. Nothing makes you forget.
Many schools are currently using recycle bins to encourage students to dispose of their
recyclable waste. It is essential that these recycling bins are clearly labelled and accessible
around the school. In order to encourage students to use these bins efficiently. We can create
some inspiring trashcans so that the students can enjoy throwing their waste.
Be a role model so that all young people can be taught good manners and help our
environment, according to Juneau, cloude, chapel (2022) a role model so that all young people
can be taught good manners.

Initiative aims to promote the “3Rs” (reduce, reuse and recycle) globally
To build a sound –material-cycle society through the effective use of resources and materials.it
was a greed upon at the g8 sea island summit in June 2004 as a new G8 initiative.it was also
greed a hold to a ministerial meeting in japan the spring of 2005.
what are the 3Rs?
-The principle of reducing waste, Reusing and recycling resources and products is often called
the “3Rs” reducing means choosing to use things with care to reduce the amount of waste
generated. reusing involves the repeat used use of items as part of item which still have usable
aspects.waste itself as resources-waste mini vation can be achieved in an efficient an the first as

‘Peoples with passion can change the world. ’It is the widely known quote of Steve Jobs.it
conveys his philosophy in the most effective and concise words.in the first semester of the Mr.
Johnson’s class, our group successfully practice Steve jobs’ philosophy in our project,
connecting’ passion’ to the ‘changes’ .our passion for basketball became an inspirational video
that conveys messages of friendship, love.
This time our group decoded to take a step forward and make more practical changes, which can
directly influence others. However, the process of connecting passion for basketball and’
practical changes’ was challenging; it required us to make a project attractive enough, so that
ordinary people (not only basketball lovers)can easily participate and get interested to the
project. In other words, our new project needed awareness of the world.
After long considerations, our group have decided to connect’ basketball’ to the current
environment issue. There is no doubt that there is significant growth of garbage on the street as
global consumption increases (Sachs). As the numbers of garbage on the street increases, our
society faces ironic situation; unfortunate reality that there are people who throws the garbage
away and another group of people who clean it up for irresponsible garbage throwers (Farley).
In order to changes such unfortunate reality, our group decided to make ‘Basketball Trash bin’.
The basic principle was simple. By placing basketball hoop and backboard over the public trash
cans, our group believed that we can reduce garbage abandoned on the streets:
However, our group soon faced numbers of worries and problems. Will it be possible to install
basketball hoops over the garbage can on the street? Will people even care about our new trash
can (“Basketball trash bin”)? Can it actually reduce the garbage on the street? Our group spent a
lot of time worrying what could be a problem and how can we solve it or develop it. We came up
with simple solution; go straight to the busiest Seoul street, install the test version of the trash
can, find the strengths and weakness of it, develop the weaknesses.
Conceptual Framework
The idea of basketball trash bin is from (Carlo Capasso) “this project serves as a container
where people can place used plastic bottle” all the collected materials will be sold to the local
junk shops and the money we raise from the transactions enable use to help the school of Lino P.
Bernardo National High School.
The basketball trash bin is a cage with a creative, fun-oriented touch on top of cage is a
makeshift basketball board with a small rim that is supposed to encourage people to shoot their
plastic bottles and watch it fall into the cage this is the meaning behind the line “shoot for a
charge” or the use of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic bottle disposal.
Once filled up, all of these materials will be seld to local junk shops by the barangay
Nazareth. The money raised will be used enable us to help the school of Lino p Bernardo
National High School.
One clear advantage of the basketball trash bin cage is that it can compel people to compel
people to refrain from their throwing plastic bottles
into other forms of waste like paper, plastic bags, etc.

Statement of the problem
The project entitled “The use of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic bottle disposal”
seek to answer the following question.

1. How may the profile of the respondents be describes in terms of:
1.1 Age;
1.2 Sex;
1.3 Grade and Section?
2. What are the students’ feedback towards the use of basketball trash bin?
3. Does basketball trash bin may be propound to promote proper plastic bottle disposal?
Scope and limitation
This study conducted in Lino p Bernardo National High School. This project of “The use of
basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic bottle disposal”. To help and maintain the
cleanliness of our school. The data collection will be conducted to 126 randomly selected
students in senior high and junior high of Lino p Bernardo National High School s/y 2021-2022.
This study focuses to maintain the cleanliness of our school to help and to encourage all
students to answer. The result of this study will be applicable only to the respondent of this study
and will not be used as a measure to the effect of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic
bottle disposal to the students and to our school of this study. The main source of data will be the
questionnaire, which is prepared by researchers.
Significance of the study
Through this study, this can encourage the students of Lino p Bernardo National High School.
To segregate the plastic bottle in other type of waste and to help this school to decrece the waste.
This study is all about “The use of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic bottle
disposal” avails to the following:

STUDENT
-This project will help the students to separate the plastic bottle.
TEACHER
-The teachers will be benefited to this project in terms of the plastic bottle disposal and this
project have a good impact in our school.
FUTURE RESEARCHERS
-This study will be benefited the future researchers with regard to help them to have a
background and have some information to their chosen topic of it is similar to the researchers
study.

CHAPTER II
Research Methodology
This chapter research local, method of deals with the research design, collecting data, sampling
and techniques and data analysis use their study.
Research design
The researcher used descriptive research in this study because they aim to descriptive about our
topic which is the use of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic bottle disposal.
Descriptive research is used to describe characteristics of a population or phenomena being
studied it does not answer question about how/when/why the characteristics this descriptive
research relationship, where on variable affect another. ( Merriam Webster).
Research locale
The researchers conducted this study in Lino P. Bernardo National High School at BRGY. Bago
General Tinio Nueva Ecija and its nearly in Fort Magsaysay .Lino P. Bernardo National High
School have a talented students, and respectful students.

This research will be conducted at Lino P. Bernardo National High School located at Purok
Gulod, Barangay Bago, General Tinio, S.Y. 2022 – 2023.
The school has a total population of 917 students. The Junior High has 636 students while
Senior High has 281 students. The school also has a total of 35 equal competent teachers both in
Junior and Senior High.
Sample and Sampling Procedure

Convenience sampling is a non-probability sampling method where units are selected for
inclusion in the sample because they are the easiest for the research access.
The respondent of this study are from the student of Lino P. Bernardo National High School
the total number of 126 students sample for this study are the students.
Research instrument
The needed data will be collected through the use of questionnaire constructed by the
researcher. The questionnaire that is divided into two parts will be used to find the use of
basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic bottle disposal.
The first part will collect the profile while the second part will be categorized according to the
use of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic bottle disposal.
To check the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, the researchers will seek the help of
five experts who are knowledgeable in the field of research. The experts will rate the
questionnaire using the following criteria: 5 Excellent; 4 Very Good; 3 Good; 2 Fair; 1 Poor.
Data Analysis Technique

Refers to your method or process of selecting respondents or people to answer question meant to
yield data for a research study.

The process of gathering the percentage was dividing the frequency (sum of the response) by the
total response.

Presentation, Analysis, and Interpretation of Data

This chapter present the data gathered, analysis of each data with concise description, and
interpretation with precise explanations on the profile, attitude, and the challenges as basis for
proposed program.
1. Profile of the Respondents

The following tables present the profile of the respondents gathered from 126 Lino P Bernardo
National High School Students. Profile includes AGE, SEX, GRADE and SECTION.
1.1 AGE
In terms of Age, the frequency and percentage were presented in Table 3 to show the numbers
of Age of students who support at the basketball trash bin the students of Lino P Bernardo
National high school (Junior and Senior High) participants in this Research Table 1

According on this table The Respondent of this research study is the Iino P Bernardo National
High School Students at the total of 126 respondent from junior and senior high school. The
table above shows that the highest of participants is from age 15 years old, which frequency is 36
(28.57%) this means the junior high grade 10 students is always throwing into basketball trash
bin.

In terms of Sex, the frequency and percentage were presented in Table 3 to show the numbers of
Male and Female who support at the basketball trash bin the students of Lino P Bernardo
National High School (Junior and Senior High) participants in this research

The Respondent of this research study is the Iino P Bernardo National High School Students at
the total of 126 respondent from junior and senior high school. According to Gomez the girls
students is always buying a plastic bottle in school canteen because the other boys students is
buying in outside of school.

The Respondent of this research study is the Iino P Bernardo National High School Students at
the total of 126 respondent from junior and senior high school. And the highest percentage in this
table. Frequency of 29 (23.01%) from 10-Eistein which is 10-Eistein always throwing a plastic
bottle in our basketball trash bin and the lowest is 12-Acad-A because they have a water
despenser in there classroom they no need to buy a plastic bottle.
2. Students feedback towards the use of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic
bottle disposal.
The feedback of respondents in The use of basketball trash bin in promoting proper plastic
bottle disposal was described through the data gathered from the questionnaire which focused on
the three components of feedback, Age, Sex, Grade and Section. Thus, the collected data were
analyzed through weighted mean and interpreted with verbal description. The indicators at the
same time have verbal interpretation to fully understand what the responses mean in the study.

This chapter presents the Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations of the research study
about THE USE OF BASKETBALL TRASH BIN IN PROMOTING PROPER PLASTIC
BOTTLE DISPOSAL.
Summary
1. Profile of the Respondents
● The tittle of our research study is “THE USE OF BASKETBALL TRASH BIN IN
PROMOTING PROPER PLASTIC BOTTLE DISPOSAL”.
● The basketball trash bin innovative idea came from the Wat bangnanai school, bangkok,
Thailand.
● There are the list and ranking the age of every respondents that supports in our basketball trash
bin based on our 126 respondents from Lino P Bernardo National High School students.
● First in our list is 15 years old total of 36 respondents, 2 nd 16 years old total of 33 respondents,
3rd in the list is 17 years old total of 30 respondents, 4th is 18 years old total of 18 respondents, 5th
in the list is 14 years old the total of 4 respondents, 6th is 19 years old total of 3 respondents and
the last in our list is the 21 years old and the total of 2 respondents.
● The female group dominated the males.
● The female respondents total of 66 and the male respondents was total of 60.
● The respondents of this research study was from 10-Galileo, 10-Einstein, 10-Archimedes, 10-
Newton, 11-Smaw, 12-Acad A, 12-Acad B, 12-Smaw.

● The feedback of the respondents in our research project the basketball trash bin is there are so
satisfied, happy and enjoyed throwing a plastic bottle in the basketball trash bin.
● They enjoyed throwing a plastic bottle in basketball trash bin.
● They feel help our environment to separate plastic bottle.

Recommendations
1. We recommended this basketball trash bin as a project in school, barangay,company etc. To

promote plastic bottle disposal and to maintain the cleanness in our ground and environment.
We need these type of project because this is very useful in any place also in school.
2. The basketball trash bin innovative idea came from the Wat bangnanai school, bangkok,
Thailand and we build own version of that basketball trash bin the board and the ring on the
middle of top and have a net like a basketball ring if 12-smaw from lino p bernardo national high
school students build that you can do that.
3. So if you have a problem in plastic bottle I recommend build this basketball trash bin. Because
this is very satisfying when you are throwing a plastic bottle and it shoot.
