WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

5th June 2019

PRESENTED BY : K.R.GUPTA – FIE ,Chartered Engr.

AIR POLLUTION

Give some care to air to breathe clean and safe.

Polluting air is not fair; save trees to breathe fresh.
Plant more plants to reduce air pollution.
Don’t inhale toxic air; it will make your lungs dustbin.
SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION

Plant more plants to reduce air pollution.

SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION
(a)--: NATURAL SOURCES
(a)
Decay of organic matter
(plant and animal remains )
Dust Storms
Forest Fires
Volcanoes

Plant more plants to reduce air pollution.

SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION
(b)--:MAN
(b) :MAN--MADE SOURCES

Stop polluting air before it stops your breathe.

HARMFUL EFFECTS OF AIR
POLLUTION

Air pollution is slow poison, it kills our lungs.

CONTROL OF AIR POLLUTION

Polluting air is not fair; save trees to breathe fresh.

CONTROL OF AIR POLLUTION
Good Ozone

Bad Ozone

Inhaling polluted air is not fair!

CONTROL OF AIR POLLUTION

Negative Effect of Ozone :

A. Increase of :
I. Skin cancers
II. Eye Cataracts
III. Immune deficiency disorders
B. U.V Radiation also effects aquatic life below water surface.

C. U.V rays affect plant growth reducing agricultural productivity.

Open your eyes and see the level of air pollution.

CONTROL OF AIR POLLUTION
OZONE DEPLETION
• Some compounds release chlorine or bromine in the
atmosphere.
• Compounds contribute for ozone depletion. ODS(Ozone-
depleting substance) generate chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and
Hydroflourocarbons (HCFC).
• Man made ODS emissions due to use of chlorine/bromine
base chemicals in refrigeration, Fire suppression and volcanic
eruptions is reducing ozone concentration in stratospheric
latitude.
• Global action has been taken under the Montreal. Protocol
1987 to halt the generation of ODS , but much remains to be
done to ensure a steady recovery.

Air pollution is reducing the level of fresh oxygen!

CONTROL OF AIR POLLUTION
Standards for Particulate matter (PM)
• Made up of very tiny solid and liquid
particles, is a widespread air pollutant,
present all around us.
• These suspended particulates are 25 to 100
times thinner than a human hair (which is
why we can’t see it) and can travel into the
respiratory tract, penetrate deep into the
lungs and even into the blood stream and
cause severe health damage.
• The coarser particles, between 2.5 and 10
micrometers (from about 25 to 100 times
thinner than a human hair) are called PM10.
• The very fine particles, smaller than 2.5
micrometers ( more than 100 times
thinner than a human hair) are called PM2.5

If you cut a tree, you kill a life and reduce oxygen level.

1. Air Pollution in India is estimated to kill 1.5 million people every year.
2. India has the world’s highest death rate from chronic respiratory diseases and
asthma as per WHO.
3. Poor Air quality damages the lungs of 2.2 million or 50 percent of all children.

Plant more trees to make this world air pollution free.

CONTROL OF AIR POLLUTION

Stop polluting air; leave some fresh air for future generations.
CONTROL OF AIR
POLLUTION

If you pollute air today; it will pollute your lungs tomorrow.
