Subject: Detecting a tsunami.

To the NOAA administration:

Tsunamis have become one of the most dangerous natural disasters. Currently NOAA is using buoys method
which is use in most countries to predict tsunamis. This method can predict a tsunamis, but the time between
the prediction and the actual disaster is not enough. People need more than just a couple minutes to move
to a shelter, or higher ground. Also, this method requires the installation of multiple devices along the coast
to be able to sense seismic activity. From the time the emergency alert has been detected, it takes a couple
minutes for people in the control center to develop an alert for everyone. Tsunamis are not a joke, and we
need the best method to predict tsunamis.

Recent studies have shown that the use of acoustic gravity waves are generated in deep ocean after a
tsunami is created. These waves can travel ten times faster than the tsunami itself. Also, acoustic gravity
waves travel in all directions making them easy to track using hydrophones (microphones inside water). Using
AGWs will allow NOAA to track the location, speed, and strength of a tsunami in seconds. This new method
also shows potential areas to have the most damage once the tsunami hits land. This new method is not only
more efficient, but it is also less expensive, just one hydrophone can serve as good as all the old equipment
currently use by NOAA.

NOAA should adapt to this new System to provide a more accurate alert system for everyone and the USA.
The investment needed is minimal compare to the investment made to the current System, which required
many buoys to be installed every certain number of miles. Adapting to this new method should provide more
time to find shelter and go to higher ground. The main goal of this organization is to save lives by studying
seismic activity inside the ocean, providing the most accurate system is a most. Using the AGWs system will
help save thousands of lives and is the future of detecting tsunamis.
