ABSTRACT

East Kalimantan has diverse ethnicities, races, religions and cultures. Culture itself is
formed from many complex elements, including religious and political systems,
customs, languages, tools, clothing, buildings, and works of art. The low level of
knowledge causes acculturation of culture which is not in accordance with the noble
values contained in regional culture. The method applied in the East Kalimantan
Cultural Park Complex focuses on the tribe cultural introduction of Dayak, Banjar, and
Kutai, in terms of carving crafts, traditional dance arts and others. The application of
Neo Vernacular theme can provide education from the perspective of traditional
buildings to the surrounding community about the importance of maintaining the
diversity of East Kalimantan indigenous cultures. The Design and Plan of East
Kalimantan Cultural Park Complex in Samarinda City uses the Neo Vernacular
architecture theme approach and applies macro-concepts (Developed Culture) that
create designs with the aim at preserving local elements that have been formed
empirically by a tradition which then experience a little modernity towards a more
modern or advanced work without ignoring the local traditional values. The concept of
micro-land order (Cultural Cluster) creates a land-based design by dividing the cluster
area into different cultures. The concept of micro-forms (Attractive Culture) creates a
building design with attractive concepts that are appointed because they are able to
represent the essence of the object as a cultural tourism building. The concept of
micro-space (Adaptive Culture) in Architecture creates both direct and indirect space
designs which related to space that functions as a place of activity. The formation of
space starts from the cultural atmosphere, and after that adjusts to the function of each
designed-space. Hence, the results of this design are expected to be an object of
educational culture that can make a positive contribution to the environment and
society and can become a tourist attraction both for the community from inside and
outside the country who are interested in the East Kalimantan indigenous cultures in
Samarinda City.
