What is it?

In our classroom, SMART goals are used to target

intentional and individualized goals for students. By
creating specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and
timely goals, students can track success, as well as
pinpoint what adjustments can be made for greater
success. In addition to outlining how each goal is
specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely,
students will identify which category, on Johnston County
Public Schools' Portrait of a Graduate, that their goal falls
within.

How will we use it?

At the beginning of the semester, students will identify a

SPECIFIC
long-term SMART goal that they wish to work towards
throughout the duration of a semester. This long-term goal
will illustrate grit for each individual student. Additionally,
at the beginning of each week, students will identify a
short-term goal that targets one of the other nine categories
listed on Johnston County Public Schools' Portrait of a Who, What, When,
Where, Why, Which

Measurable
Graduate. Students will reflect on their experiences, at the

ATTAINABLE
end of each week, and make adjustments for the following
week.

With a focus on self-reflection, growth mindset, critical

thinking, and problem solving skills, this weekly activity
will provide students with a space to explore a number of Relevant
personal goals throughout the semester. Additionally,

TIMELY
students will gain experience with valuable literacy skills
including; reading, writing, speaking and listening,
through reflection activities and journals.
