5a  what would you do if …?

Answer the questions below honestly and then compare your answers with other students in
your group.

1 You’re responsible for advertising a new children’s fruit drink which you know isn’t very good
for them because it has lots of added sugar. In the advertisement, would you:
a) say it’s good for children because of all the fruit it contains?
b) say it might be bad for children because it has lots of sugar, but promote it as a fun, party
drink?
c) resign from your advertising job because you can’t advertise such a product?

2 You’re applying for a job you really want and you know you can do well. However, you don’t
have all the necessary experience: Would you:
a) lie about your experience on the application form and at the interview?
b) tell the truth on the application form and at the interview?
c) lie on the application form but tell the truth when you go for an interview?

3 A homeless person asks you for money on the street, but you only have a little change which
you need for your bus fare. Would you:
a) say you don’t have any change?
b) say you will come back later and give him some change (but not return)?
c) give him the change you have?

4 You’re at your friend’s house for dinner and you hate the food. Would you tell your friend:
a) that you don’t like the food?
b) that you’re really sorry, but you’re not very hungry, and not finish the food?

5 Your friend has just given you tickets for a really big football match. You love football more
than anything else. But the match is on Monday afternoon and you also have a very important
meeting at work that day. Would you:
a) phone work, lie to your boss that you’re sick, and go to the match?
b) take a day’s holiday from work to go to the match, even though you know your boss will be
furious?
c) give the tickets to someone else?

6 You are looking after a friend’s house while she is on holiday. Two days before she returns, the
house is burgled. Would you:
a) call her immediately and tell her?
b) wait two days, until she comes to pick up the house key from you, and then tell her?
c) call another friend and ask them to tell her?
