STORY CARDS
A: When we got to my house, my father told us what
had happened. The police had found a man living in
the new ceiling.
C: Later we found out that he had moved into the space
between the new ceiling and the original one about
two months before. He’d made himself a home, but
had always been very quiet until that cold day we
went to play football.
E: We went into the school and walked to our
classroom. But as we entered the room, we heard
a loud knocking sound. The sound came from the
ceiling. ‘It’s the birds’, I said. ‘Not in December’,
Jamie replied.
G: As we were walking towards the main doors, Jamie
suddenly said ‘Did you see that?’. ‘See what?’, I
asked. ‘A face at the window’, Jamie said, ‘a man’s
face’. I told him it was probably the caretaker, but
Jamie insisted he’d never seen the man before.

B: One morning in December, I arrived at the school
earlier than usual to play football in the playground.
As always I was with my friend, Jamie. However,
after about 15 minutes we were so cold we couldn’t
feel our fingers. So, we decided to go into the school
buildings to try to keep warm.
D: This is a true story that happened to me when I was a
child at school. I was about 12 years old at the time
and I’d been going to this school for about two years.
F: The next day at eight o’clock we saw there were
police cars outside. One of the police officers said
that the school was closed and told us to go home.
H: We told the teacher what we’d heard, but for the
rest of the day we heard nothing more and forgot all
about the man and the noise. When the school bell
rang, we packed our books away and went home.
