5B  who will buy …?

New

You are advertising executives and you are doing some market research to
decide the kind of person who is going to buy the following product:
A new and expensive ‘green’ car which is environmentally friendly, uses ‘green’
fuel and can run on electricity for short distances. It is also luxurious, well-
designed – and fast. It is ideal for someone who likes driving or has to drive a
lot for their job, but who also has an eye for design. The car is big enough for a
family, but sporty enough for single people who like a bit of adventure.
Below is the information you have received on four people with different
ages, salary levels, etc. With the other executives in your group, compare the
information and discuss who will probably buy the car. Give reasons.
When you have decided who will probably buy the car, give a short
presentation to the other groups of executives.

Name: Andrew
Age: 46
Salary: 150,000 Euros
Average work hours per week: 45
Andrew says: ‘I’m really interested in politics. I’m very worried
about the environment and what’s happening to our
countryside. I hate driving, but I have to have a car
because I live five miles from the nearest shop!’

Name: Petra
Age: 32
Yearly salary: 100,000 Euros
Average work hours per week: 60
Petra says: ‘I work long hours and have to drive a lot to and from
different clients. I try to spend all my spare time with my
kids – I’ve got three. When I’m too busy, my husband
picks them up from school and does the shopping.’

Name: Paul
Age: 25
Salary: 40,000 Euros
Average work hours per week: 55
Paul says: ‘I’m working a lot at the moment so I can earn more in
the future. I have to travel a long way by train to my job
– I hate it! I’m about to become a father and I’m really
excited – but I do worry about what the world will be
like for her (or him!) in the future.’

Name: Simona
Age: 55
Salary: 300,000 Euros
Average work hours per week: 70
Simona says: ‘Okay, I work hard and earn a lot, but I’m single so I
spend a lot on myself – on clothes, going out, holidays,
beautiful flat in the centre of town. I love driving and
need a car to go with my fashionable image – that’s
important to me.’
