SCENARIO
You are on a committee drawing up plans for a new park in your home town. To make way for the park, one of two
important local buildings will have to be demolished (knocked down).
You have been asked to give a presentation to other members of the committee to present facts about one of the two
buildings. Use the information and the verbs on the card your teacher gives you to prepare your presentation.
After you have given your presentation and heard the other members’ talk about their building, discuss which of the two
buildings should be demolished.

Information card 1: Foxley House


Designer: Harold Fitzgerald (famous and important architect)
Builder: Unknown
Date: 1835
Changes to building: Another (3rd) floor (1906), swimming pool (1933), new stairs (1990)
Past uses: Davies’ family home (bought 1835, sold 1955, empty 1955–1964), Young People’s Centre
(bought 1965)
Present uses: Young People’s Centre (sports facilities, café, meeting rooms)
Future uses: Possibly a nursing home for old people
Condition: Bad (storm damage 1997)
Report on demolition: Ready end of this year
