Tarantula Characteristics

Theraphosidae Appearance: Dark brown to black; furry

Size: 4 ½''-11'' long
Location: Near CFTA walkway
Despite their intimidating appearance,
Season: Summer-fall
tarantulas are harmless to humans,
other than a painful bite. Tarantulas can
be found in tropical, subtropical, and arid
regions of the world. Tarantulas are
burrowers and live in the ground.
Feeding on animals such as rodents,
medium sized birds, and insects, the
tarantula only has a very small number
of predators. The most common predator is the parasitic pepsic wasp or more commonly known as
a tarantula hawk.
