Collaboration Assignment

December 10, 2018

This was a great opportunity to collaborate with another teacher and learn new software at the

same time. I collaborated with Michelle Marino on the Monster Exchange Project using

Edmodo. The process went very smooth but the descriptive writing was much more difficult than

I had expected. I love to write but the detail required, in order to clearly communicate drawing

my monster, was a lot of work. The drawing was enjoyable.

First, we decided to communicate using Edmodo. This is the first time I had used this

program and it worked really well. We were able to post messages and attachments. We

reviewed information about the Monster Exchange Project and started drawing our monsters.

The hard part, as I mentioned previously, was writing the description in precise detail in order to

communicate to my partner how to replicate it. My partner used the Auto Draw program to draw

her monster. I drew mine freehand and her drawing was definitely more attractive than mine.

Despite this, both drawings were remarkably close to the original.

I think we both did a great job of writing the description as well as drawing the monsters,

see below. If you would like access to our Edmodo discussions, just let me know and I, or

Michelle, can provide it.

The collaboration itself was very successful. We both started working on the project right

away and agreed on the timing of sharing our drawings. This has not always been the case with

prior collaborations for me so I was very pleased. With both of us being responsive, we were

able to get the work done in a timely manner without stress.

I have already spoken to our 4th grade teachers and we plan to do this activity with their

classes next spring. This will be a good opportunity to help students develop descriptive writing

skills. Students will most likely find this activity challenging but also enjoy it. How can they not

enjoy drawing monsters!
