WV Math Academy Summer Summit 2018
● The 2018 Mathematics Quarterly Meetings focused on algebraic concepts, an area of need as
determined by WV student data.
● Attending teachers deepened their understanding of mathematics to further embrace the rigor
of the WV College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics while moving from a rote
understanding of concepts.
● The Mathematics Quarterly Meetings provided an environment in which high school
mathematics teachers learned to problem solve in a learner-centered environment, actively
engaging in discourse with peers around the mathematics, integrating the eight Mathematical
Habits of Mind into daily instruction and increasing student engagement with mathematics.
● The meetings facilitated teachers' meta-cognitive reflection on their own teaching practice and
provided access points for them to change their instructional practices.
