A school for stars

This is the school from the television show Beverly Hills 90210. Most of the students
come from rich families and some of them have famous parents. People from
Hollywood sometimes go to Beverly Hills high to look for future actors.

School Life

There are a lots of good things about going to this school: there are two theatres, a
television studio and a radio station. The students make TV programmes and films in
their drama classes. The biggest event of the school year is the school dance, or
“prom”. Everyone at Beverly Hills High travels to the prom in limousine!

Travelling to school

In California, children can learn to drive three months before their sixteenth birthday.
Lots of students at Beverly Hills High have their own cars but they have to pay a lot of
money to park their cars in the school car park.

What the kids think

Most kids enjoy going to Beverly Hills high because it is fun and there is lots to do.
But some kids do not like the school if their parents don’t have enough money to buy
them a fast car and expensive clothes.

BRAILLE

Braille is special writing for blind people. Blind people cannot see, but they can read
Braille. Louis Braille invented the system in 1824, in France. At the time, he was only
fifteen years old.
The letters in Braille writing are not normal letters. They are dots on the paper. Blind
people touch the dots; they read the letters with their hands. Dots do not represent
only letters of the alphabet; they also represent numbers, punctuation, and frequent
words. Many blind people in the world can read in Braille. There are many books
written in Braille but they are very expensive.
Now, blind people can use computers and CD players at home and at work. There are
also calculators and different machines which can talk, these help blind people, too.
