Course: IMAGE PROCESSING ( ME ETC ECI )

Semester: III semester Year: July-Nov. 2019 Scheme: RC 2014

FIRST TEST Total Marks: 25 Time: 60 minutes

Sl. No Questions Marks CO Level
1 Show and explain the components of an Image 5 CO1 L2
Processing System.
2 Define sampling & quantization techniques in digital 3 CO1 L1
image processing & comment on resolution using sketch.
3 Categorize the basic relationships and distance measures 7 CO3 L4
between pixels in a digital image. In the following
arrangement of pixels, what’s the value of the city-block,
Euclidean and chessboard distance between the circled
two points (Marked BOLD)?

4 With respect to elements of visual perception answer any 3 CO1 L1

one of the following: i) Structure of the human eye,
ii) Brightness adaptation & discrimination.
5 Estimate the diameter of the smallest printed dot that eye 7 CO4 L6
can discern if the page on which dot is printed is 0.2 m
away from the eyes. Assume for simplicity that the visual
system ceases to detect the dot when the image of the dot
on the fovea becomes smaller than the diameter of one
receptor (cone) in that area of the retina.
Assume further that the fovea can be modelled as
a square array of dimension 1.5 mm x 1.5 mm, and that
the cones and spaces between the cones are distributed
uniformly throughout this array. (Array size has 337,000
i.e. 580 elements x 579 spaces on a line of 1.5 mm.)
