Q4. A vacuum gauge mounted on a condenser reads 0.66 mHg. What is the absolute
pressure in the condenser in kPa when the atmospheric pressure is 101.3 kPa?

Solution: Absolute = atm. – vacuum

= 101.3 – 0.66 × 13.6 × 103 × 9.81 × 10−3kPa = 13.24 kPa

Q5. Determine the human body temperature in degree Celsius (°C) if the temperature in
Fahrenheit is 98.6°F.

Solution:
T ( F ) − 32
Degree Celsius and Fahrenheit are related as below, T ( C ) =
1.8
98.6 − 32
Substituting values. T ( C ) = = 37 C
1.8

Temperature in degree celsius shall be 37°C. Ans.

Q6. A manometer is used to measure the pressure in a tank. The fluid used in the manometer has
a specific gravity of 0.85 and the manometer column height is 55 cm. If the local atmospheric
pressure is 96 kPa, determine the absolute pressure within the tank in kPa. What is the gage
pressure in this case? Draw the schematic of the manometer connected with the tank with data.
