FOUNDER; Marcus Samuel

FOUNDED; April, 1907 in London (112 years )

In 1833, Marcus Samuel decided to expand his London business. He already

sold antiques but decided to try selling oriental seashells as well, capitalising on their
popularity in the interior design industry at that time. The demand was so great that
he began importing the shells from the Far East, laying the foundations for an import-
export business that would ultimately become one of the world’s leading energy
companies.

When Marcus Samuel senior died in 1870 he passed the business on to his
two sons, Marcus junior and Samuel, who began to expand it. In the 1880s they
became particularly interested in the oil exporting business but shipping still posed a
problem as oil was carried in barrels which could leak and took up a lot of space. To
solve the problem, they commissioned a fleet of steamers to carry oil in bulk,
including the Murex which, in 1892, became the first oil tanker to pass through the
Suez Canal.

Shell is British Dutch oil and Gas Company headquartered in the Netherlands
and incorporated in the United Kingdom. It is one of the six oil and gas super major
and the fifth largest company in the world measured by 2018, and the largest based
in Europe. Shell has operates in over 70 countries produces round 3.7 million barrels
oil equivalent per day and has 44,000 services station worldwide. And the first World
war, shell was the main supplier of fuel to the British expeditionary force.

The first Shell branches here in the Philippines is Makati. And after many
years Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, has all branches of shell.

 Kihachiro Onitsuka founded ASICS in 1949 to realize his desire to nurture the
youth of Japan through sports and contribute to the development of society. Our

Body)” represents our wish that people all over the world will live healthful and happy
lives in both body and mind.

ASICS was originated or began as Onitsuka Co., Ltd on September 1, 1949.

In 1977, Onitsuka tiger emerged with GTO and Jenlek to form ASICS Corporation.
ASICS is a Japanese multinational corporation which produce footwear and sports
equipment designed for a wide range of sports, generally in the upper price range.
ASICS is an acronym of a famous Latin phrase “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano”
which means “a healthy mind in a healthy body”. In a society in which people with
different values enjoy sports and live more enriching lifestyles, ASICS will use its
intelligent technology to contribute to realizing an environment in which people will
feel more familiar with sports.

This year marks 70 years since ASICS’ founding. The social significance of
sports is growing more than ever in modern society. Sports are an important element
